15PURPOSE: A population-based cross-sectional study to investigate the association between depression and dry eye disease (DED) in a community-dwelling elderly population. METHODS: The subjects were 657 Korean elders ≥ 65 years of age randomly selected from an official household registration database in Yongin, Korea. DED symptoms were assessed using the six-item Dry Eye Questionnaire. DED signs were evaluated using the Schirmer test, fluorescein stain score, tear film break-up time (BUT). Depress
Korean guidelines for the diagnosis and management of dry eye can be used as a valid and effective tool for the treatment of dry eye disease.
This study was performed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of dry eye disease (DED) among paramedical workers at a university hospital in Korea. This cross-sectional study included 566 paramedical workers at a university hospital in Korea. Dry eye symptoms were assessed using a 9-item questionnaire, and DED was defined as having 1 or more dry eye symptoms often or all the time. A survey including demographic data and potential risk factors of DED was also performed. Psychological stres
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the toxicity of voriconazole on cultured human corneal endothelial cells (HCECs). HCECs were cultured and exposed to various concentrations of voriconazole (5.0 to 1,000 μg/ml). Cell viability was measured using a Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and live/dead viability/cytotoxicity assays. Cell damage was assessed using phase-contrast microscopy after 24 h of exposure to voriconazole. To analyze the effect of voriconazole on the intercellular barrier,
PURPOSE: To evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of symptomatic dry eye disease (DED) among medical students. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 209 students at a medical school in Korea. Dry eye symptoms were assessed using a 9-item questionnaire, and DED was defined as having one or more dry eye symptoms often or all the time. The ocular surface disease index (OSDI) and visual analog scale (VAS) questionnaires were also administered to quantify the dry eye symptoms. A survey incl
Anti-inflammatory therapy in primary Sjögren syndrome significantly improved subjective symptoms and objective ocular signs; however, we did not find evidence that anti-inflammatory treatment increases tear production in patients with Sjögren syndrome.
These results suggest that topical 0.3% gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution can be a new initial treatment agent against M chelonae keratitis.Clinical Relevance Topical gatifloxacin 0.3% may provide an initial alternative in therapy of M chelonae keratitis.
The computerized OKN test could serve as an objective and reliable tool for assessing distance visual acuity.
BACKGROUND: To investigate the 3-month postoperative performance and safety after implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) in a Korean population. METHODS: This was a clinical, prospective, multicenter, single-arm study. Forty-four subjects (88 eyes) with bilateral cataract with expected postoperative corneal astigmatism of < 1.00 diopter (D) and no ocular disease or eye condition underwent bilateral implantation of the AcrySof IQ® PanOptix IOL (TFNT00). Postoperative examination at 3 m
Three percent diquafosol tetrasodium treatment could be considered as an additive or substitute treatment when artificial tear treatment is insufficient, as it improved OSS and TBUT. This study also demonstrated that diquafosol treatment is beneficial for TBUT improvement in SS, while it is beneficial for OSS improvement in non-SS dry eye patients.
The commercial formulation of gatifloxacin 0.3% containing BAC 0.005% completely eradicated staphylococcal isolates more rapidly than the BAC-free formulation of moxifloxacin 0.5% or BAC 0.005% alone.
OVD applied to the ocular surface during cataract surgery had a protective effect on the ocular surface one week after surgery.
Dry eye disease (DED) is a major public health problem worldwide that seriously impairs the quality of life, reduces work productivity, and poses significant economic burden. In DED, tear film instability or hyperosmolarity activates a self-perpetuating vicious cycle that may aggravate ocular surface inflammation and damage. Thus, treatment approaches should focus on interrupting this cycle and ameliorating inflammation. In addition to anti-inflammatory medications, such as corticosteroids, cycl
