SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Dog-bite injuries are increasing in Korea, especially in teenagers and adults. A relative's or neighbour's dog may be more dangerous than a stranger's dog. Preventive strategies are needed to prevent dog-bite injuries in adults and children.

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

We assessed the feasibility and potential efficacy of a virtual reality (VR) environment using a dome screen as a distraction method in young children during intravenous (IV) placement in the pediatric emergency department. This randomized controlled pilot study enrolled children aged 2 to 6 years who underwent IV placement into either the intervention group or the control group. Children in the intervention group experienced VR using a dome screen during IV placement. The child's pain intensity

SJR Q1JAMA PediatricsOA

Importance: Distraction using virtual reality (VR) has been found to provide a clinically significant reduction in the experience of pain during various painful procedures. Commercially available VR systems usually require the user to wear a head-mounted display helmet, which can be challenging for young children, and whether VR can reduce pain during intravenous (IV) placement in young children is currently unknown. Objective: To determine whether a VR environment using a novel domed ceiling sc

SJR Q2The Journal of Vascular Access

BACKGROUND: Successful intravenous catheter placement plays a vital role in the pediatric emergency department. We assessed pediatric emergency department-related factors associated with difficult intravenous catheter placement. METHOD: We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of patients younger than 18 years who had an intravenous catheter placement attempt during their pediatric emergency department stay. Difficult intravenous access was defined as intravenous catheter place

New decision formulas for predicting endotracheal tube depth in children: analysis of neck CT images
Se Uk Lee, Jae Yun Jung, Do Kyun Kim, Young Ho Kwak, Hyuksool Kwon, Jun Hwi Cho, Joong Wan Park, Yoo Jin Choi
SJR Q1Emergency Medicine Journal

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to construct a prediction model for endotracheal tube depth using neck CT images. METHODS: A retrospective image review was conducted that included patients who had undergone neck CT. Using sagittal neck CT images, we calculated the length between upper incisor and mid-trachea and then derived the model via regression analysis. The model was validated externally using chest radiographs of patients who had undergone endotracheal intubation. We compared

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Intussusception is one of the most common causes of intestinal obstruction in young children. We report a retrospective, observational study of the epidemiology of intussusception in South Korea using the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort (NHIS-NSC). A cohort of newborns born between 2002 and 2008 was selected. The primary objective was to assess the incidence of intussusception in the pediatric population of Korea. The secondary objectives were to describe the basic epide

Trampoline-related injuries in children: a nationwide cross-sectional study in South Korea
Geonmoo Lee, Do Kyun Kim, Joong Wan Park, Young Ho Kwak, Jae Yun Jung
SJR Q1Clinical and Experimental Emergency MedicineOA

Trampoline-related injuries in children have increased over time in South Korea. Most occur in children under the age of 12 years, but children between the ages of 13 and 18 years are at a higher risk for hospitalization. Also, injuries of the upper extremity, fracture, falling, and collision are risk factors for admission. Preventive strategies are needed to reduce trampoline-related injuries in children.

SJR Q4Journal of Trauma and InjuryOA

Purpose: The increasing use of electric personal mobility devices (ePMDs) has been accompanied by an increasing incidence of associated accidents. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of ePMD-related injuries and their associated factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the Emergency Department-based Injury In-depth Surveillance database from 2014 to 2018. All patients who were injured while operating an ePMD were eligible. The primary outcome was

SJR Q1BMC Emergency MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Abdominal pain, which is a common cause of children presenting to the paediatric emergency department (PED), is often evaluated by ultrasonography (US). However, uncertainty in US reports may necessitate additional imaging. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we evaluated factors contributing to uncertainty in paediatric abdominal US reports in the PED. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included children younger than 18 years of age who underwent abdominal US in the PED of

Foreign body (FB) injuries mainly occur in young children and may cause serious complications. The purpose of this study was to describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of FB injuries among children visiting the emergency department (ED) in South Korea and to compare the incidence and the ED results of FB injuries.Using data from the National Emergency Department Information System, FB injury-related ED visits among children (<7 years) between January 2010 and December 2014 were

SJR Q1Prehospital Emergency Care

Objective: We developed a novel compression assist device (palm presser) to perform chest compressions using a palm in infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). We hypothesized that the palm presser will increase compression depth without increasing hands-off time and will reduce rescuer fatigue compared with the two-finger technique (TFT).Methods: In this randomized crossover manikin trial, participants performed two minutes of CPR with a 30:2 compression:ventilation ratio using
