15The porcine model is a more useful training tool than the manikin model for cricothyrotomy with PCK because of its reality and similarity to human anatomy.
BACKGROUND: The conventional methods for teaching neurological examination with real patients to medical students have some limitations if the patient with the symptom or disease is not available. Therefore, we developed a Virtual Reality-based Neurological Examination Teaching Tool (VRNET) and evaluated its usefulness in in teaching neurological examinations for the medical students. METHODS: In this prospective, randomized, single-blind study, we recruited 98 medical students and divided them
The performance of chest compressions decreased when the bed height was 20 cm higher than the knee height of the rescuer.
Competency assessment after simulation-based training in ACLS undergone by senior medical students randomly assigned to flipped and traditional classrooms showed no statistical difference in competency between the two groups.
We developed a telemedicine system for remote guidance of emergency airway management called the Tele-Airway Management System (TAMS). In a pilot study we examined the usefulness of the TAMS for intubations of actual patients in a hospital emergency department. Twenty-five patients were allocated randomly either to a TAMS group or to an on-scene directed (OSD) group. A total of 12 were intubated using the TAMS. The mean time to intubation (TAMS 62 s vs. OSD 56 s) and the success rate was not dif
OBJECTIVE: We report the current status of emergency airway management in elderly Korean patients by analysing a multicentre registry database in order to provide quality emergency airway management to elderly patients. METHODS: The present study was designed as a retrospective, subgroup analysis of the registry of Korean Emergency Airway Management Society. We analysed rapid sequence intubation rate, first pass success rate and complications. RESULTS: The study consisted of 4891 patients aged 6
Gastric lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) is a rare neoplasm of the stomach that features undifferentiated carcinoma mixed with lymphoid stroma, and it invariably has a good prognosis. Most gastric LELCs have been linked to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. We experienced a case of a patient with gastric LELC. A 57 years old female patient was found to have shallow irregular ulcerative lesion on the gastric antrum. Although repetitive endoscopic biopsy didn't yield any cancer, early gast
When an unexpected crisis happens to patients with multiple continuous infusion fluids in the emergency department (ED), nurses need to recognize specific medication promptly and accurately for appropriate action. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of colour-coded label system in ED fluids during an uneventful crisis simulation event. Promptness and accuracy of finding the correct fluid between the pre- and postintervention in each three groups (emergency nurses, intensive care unit nurs
Diet exerts a major stress on the body and may affect gene expression and physiological functions. Understanding of cellular responses during starvation is necessary in developing strategies to reduce damage caused by diet. In this study, we isolated 10 genes (Comt, RGN, Scd1, Temt, Idi1, Fabp5, Car3, Cyp2c70, Pinx1, and Poldip3) that are down-regulated in starvation and are closely related to liver metabolism. Water supply during starvation had no effect on the induction of apoptosis, autophagy
Purpose: Current resuscitation guideline recommends not using the automated external defibrillator (AED) in a running ambulance, because artifact arising from movement of the ambulance can interfere with rhythm analysis of AED and can simulate ventricular fibrillation (VF). This study was conducted to determine whether the AED can be operated correctly in a running ambulance. Methods: Five AEDs were tested for their sensitivity, specificity, positive/negative predictive value, and accuracy. Each
