15The use of cell-rich hydrogels for three-dimensional (3D) cell culture has shown great potential for a variety of biomedical applications. However, the fabrication of appropriate constructs has been challenging. In this study, we describe a 3D printing process for the preparation of a multilayered 3D construct containing human mesenchymal stromal cells with a hydrogel comprised of atelocollagen and supramolecular hyaluronic acid (HA). This construct showed outstanding regenerative ability for th
A transection (root tear or complete radial tear) injury of the medial meniscus posterior horn is not rare in the oriental area and needs to be repaired to restore the hoop tension and to reduce the extruded meniscus, which leads to osteoarthritis of the knee. In cases with transection of the medial meniscus posterior horn, the meniscus can be repaired by a pull out suture technique. However, it is difficult to manipulate a suture hook and drill a tibial tunnel in the narrow medial joint space u
BACKGROUND: High tibial osteotomy can affect the posterior tibial slope in the sagittal plane because of the triangular configuration of the proximal tibia. However, the effect of the location of cortical hinge on posterior tibial slope has not been previously described. HYPOTHESIS: Posterolateral location of the cortical hinge will increase posterior tibial slope after medial open wedge osteotomy, and lateral location of the cortical hinge will not affect the change of the posterior tibial slop
Level IV.
PURPOSE: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the reliability of the dial test by assessing the correlation between the severity of posterolateral corner injuries and the amount of external rotation of the tibia. METHODS: Fourteen paired cadaveric legs were fixed into a custom-made isotonic rotation machine with the knee flexed at 30 degrees . For group I (7 right knees), the lateral collateral ligament, popliteofibular ligament, popliteus tendon, and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) were c
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare clinical results of arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstructions using double-loop hamstring tendon autograft and Achilles tendon allograft while preserving the original PCL remnant. TYPE OF STUDY: Case-control study of results of treatment. METHODS: From September 1997 to December 2000, 36 patients who received only PCL reconstruction were reviewed retrospectively. Of these, 18 patients received autogenous double-loop hamstring
Purpose To investigate the efficacy of the insertion of 3‐dimensional (3D) bio‐printed scaffold sleeves seeded with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to enhance osteointegration between the tendon and tunnel bone in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in a rabbit model. Methods Scaffold sleeves were fabricated by 3D bio‐printing. Before ACL reconstruction, MSCs were seeded into the scaffold sleeves. ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendon was performed on both legs of 15 adult rabbits (
PURPOSE: To investigate which technique would reduce bending stress at the femoral tunnel aperture and make short tunnel length after ACL reconstruction by comparing the femoral graft bending angle and tunnel length between the single-bundle (SB) transtibial (TT) and double-bundle (DB) transportal (TP) technique using three-dimensional-computed tomography using OsiriX(®) imaging software. METHODS: Forty-nine patients underwent an ACL reconstruction using a SB TT (Group I, 20 patients) and DB TP
BACKGROUND: During arthroscopic transtibial posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, popliteal vessel injury is the most serious complication, and it rarely occurs. PURPOSE: To evaluate the distance change between the posterior cruciate ligament and the neurovascular bundle by limited release of the posterior capsule during arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: The authors performed an arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligam
PURPOSE: To evaluate whether hinge position affects the change in posterior tibial slope in medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO). METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 19 knees from 17 patients who underwent medial open-wedge HTO by 3-dimensional computed tomography scan before and after surgery. A 3-dimensional image model was constructed by applying reverse-engineering software to the computed tomography DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) files. The hinge axis (i.e
PURPOSE: Coronal correction errors after medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) occasionally occur even with the assistance of navigation. The purpose of the present study was to determine the navigation accuracy in MOWHTO and to identify factors that affect the coronal correction error after navigation-assisted MOWHTO. METHODS: A total of 114 knees treated with navigation-assisted MOWHTO were reviewed retrospectively. Mechanical axis (MA) on standing radiograph and medial proximal
The modified Brostrom procedure is commonly recommended for reconstruction of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATF) and calcaneofibular ligament (CF) with an advancement of the inferior retinaculum. However, some surgeons perform the modified Bostrom procedure with an semi-single ATF ligament reconstruction and advancement of the inferior retinaculum for simplicity. This study evaluated the initial stability of the modified Brostrom procedure and compared a two ligaments (ATF + CF) reconstruct
