10As an objectively good sleep does not match the subjective good-sleep perception in OSA, physicians should keep in mind that OSA patients who perceive that they have slept well does not mean that their OSA is less severe.
OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to evaluate the utility of aquaporin-4 antibodies (AQP4-Ab) in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). METHODS: The clinical and radiological characteristics of 78 patients with NMOSD and 22 with multiple sclerosis (MS), who were tested for AQP4-Ab by a cell-based assay, were assessed. RESULTS: The mean time interval between symptom onset and development of optic neuritis and myelitis was 39.9 months in neuromyelitis optica (NMO). About 40% of patien
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Although both ends of the hemoglobin range may negatively influence clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke, most studies have examined the linear relationship or focused on the lower end of the range. Furthermore, it is unclear whether hemoglobin concentrations at different time points during hospitalization correlate with clinical outcomes in the same manner. METHODS: We identified 2681 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke from a prospective stroke registr
Colchicine is a drug used for the treatment of acute gouty arthritis or various autoimmune diseases. Gastrointestinal adverse effects such as abdominal pain and vomiting are the common side effects of the drug, but rarely myopathy has been reported to occur particularly in renal recipients who were treated concomitantly with immunosuppressants. Herein, we report a case who presented with acute myopathy after treated with colchicine for acute gouty arthritis.
Periodic limb movements during sleep (PLMS) are frequently observed in the general population, although such movements may be associated with a variety of medical and neurological disorders. Human T-lymphotropic virus type I-associated myelopathy (HAM) is a rare progressive disease in which abnormalities are rarely observed on spinal images. We present the case of a 55-year-old woman with PLMS who was later diagnosed with HAM. The current case indicates that HAM can be considered a possible caus
Microvascular decompression (MVD) is a widely used surgical intervention to relieve the abnormal compression of a facial nerve caused by an artery or vein that results in hemifacial spasm (HFS). Various intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (ION) and mapping methodologies have been used since the 1980s, including brainstem auditory evoked potentials, lateral-spread responses, Z-L responses, facial corticobulbar motor evoked potentials, and blink reflexes. These methods have been applied to
We describe a case of a 23-year-old man who presented with posterior instability of the right shoulder following trauma. Focal neuropathy of the axillary nerve branch to the teres minor muscle was diagnosed electrophysiologically. A shoulder magnetic resonance image revealed fatty atrophy of the teres minor muscle with sparing of the deltoid, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and subscapularis muscles. To our knowledge, this is the first case of selective injury of the branch of the axillary nerve to
