15Helical IMRT-based SBRT was tolerable and showed encouraging results. Confirmatory phase II trial is underway.
Organ preserving CRT provided a treatment outcome that is comparable to SRT for locally advanced hypopharyngeal cancer, while offering an opportunity for functional larynx-preservation and reduced treatment-related toxicity.
BACKGROUND: Synchronous liver metastases are detected in approximately 25% of colorectal cancer patients at diagnosis. The rates of local failure and distant metastasis are substantial in these patients, even after undergoing aggressive treatments including resection of primary and metastatic liver tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine whether adjuvant pelvic radiotherapy is beneficial for pelvic control and overall survival in rectal cancer patients with synchronous liver metastasi
We identified a novel class of aryl-substituted triazine compounds as potent non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) during a high-throughput screening campaign that evaluated more than 200000 compounds for antihuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV) activity using a cell-based full replication assay. Herein, we disclose the optimization of the antiviral activity in a cell-based assay system leading to the discovery of compound 27, which possessed excellent potency against wild-type
Background: Sarcopenia, defined as skeletal muscle loss, has been known as a poor prognosis factor in various malignant diseases. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of sarcopenia on prognosis in patients with esophageal cancer who received concurrent chemo-radiation therapy(CCRT). Methods: We retrospectively collected clinical data of 287 patients with esophageal cancer who were treated by definite CCRT at Gangnam Severance and Severance hospital from August 2005 to December 2014
The metC gene encoding the cystathionine β-lyase, the third enzyme in the methionine biosynthetic pathway, was isolated from Corynebacterium glutamicum by heterologous complementation of the Escherichia coli metC mutant. A DNA-sequence analysis of the cloned DNA identified two open-reading frames (ORFs) of ORF1 and ORF2 that consisted of 1,107 and 978 bp, respectively. A SDS-PAGE analysis identified a putative cystathionine β-lyase band with approximate Mr of 41,000 that consisted of 368 amino a
In budding yeast, the major regulator of the mitotic exit network (MEN) is Tem1, a GTPase, which is inhibited by the GTPase-activating protein (GAP), Bfa1/Bub2. Asymmetric Bfa1 localization to the bud-directed spindle pole body (SPB) during metaphase also controls mitotic exit, but the molecular mechanism and function of this localization are not well understood, particularly in unperturbed cells. We identified four novel Cdc5 target residues within the Bfa1 C-terminus: (452)S, (453)S, (454)S, a
Chemoradiation for CEC was well tolerated, and a higher dose was not associated with stenosis. Patients with complete circumferential involvement require close follow-up.
A porcine skin model was developed to characterize the dose-dependent response to high-dose radiation. The dorsal skin of a mini pig was divided into four paraspinal sections, with 11 small irradiation fields (2 cm × 2 cm) in each section, and a single fraction of 15, 30, 50 or 75 Gy was delivered to each section using a 6 MeV electron beam. A spectrophotometer measured gross skin changes, and a biopsy for each radiation dose was performed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th and 9th weeks for histology, i
BACKGROUND: To evaluate the role of definitive radiotherapy using higher-than-standard-dose radiation of 50 Gy for carcinoma of the cervical esophagus (CCE). METHODS: We reviewed 79 patients with stage I-III CCE, treated between 2000 and 2012. Patients received 5-fluorouracil/cisplatin-based chemotherapy concurrently and were divided into high-dose (≥59.4 Gy, n = 44) and standard-dose (<59.4 Gy, n = 35) groups. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 35 months for surviving patients. The high-dose gro
