15This study aimed to compare the accuracy of novel lipid indices, including the visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), triglycerides and glucose (TyG) index, TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), and TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC), in identifying insulin resistance and establish valid cutoff values. This cross-sectional study used the data of 11,378 adults, derived from the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2016). Insulin resistance was def
OBJECTIVE: According to the guidelines, rescuers should provide chest compressions (CC) ~1.5 inches (40 mm) for infants. Feedback devices could help rescuers perform CC with adequate rates (CCR) and depths (CCD). However, there is no CC feedback device for infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). We suggest a smartwatch-based CC feedback application for infant CPR. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: We created a smartwatch-based CC feedback application. This application provides feedback on CCD and CC
Importance: The recent American Heart Association guidelines added a sixth link in the chain of survival highlighting recovery and emphasized the importance of psychiatric outcome and recovery for survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The prevalence of psychiatric disorders among this population was higher than that in the general population. Objective: To examine the prevalence of depression or anxiety and the association of these conditions with long-term mortality among individu
BACKGROUND: The recommended chest compression technique for a single rescuer performing infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation is the two-finger technique. For 2 rescuers, a two-thumb-encircling hands technique is recommended. Several recent studies have reported that the two-thumb-encircling hands technique is more effective for high-quality chest compression than the two-finger technique for a single rescuer performing infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We undertook a systematic review and me
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to examine whether stretching of the scalene muscles would improve slow vital capacity (SVC). [Subjects and Methods] The subjects of this study were 20 healthy female students to whom the study's methods and purpose were explained and their agreement for participation was obtained. The SVC was measured using spirometry (Pony FX, COSMED Inc., Italy). The intervention used was stretching of the scalene muscles. Stretching was carried out for 15 min, 10 times
BACKGROUND: The efficacy and safety of videolaryngoscopes (VLs) for tracheal intubation is still conflicting and changeable according to airway circumstances. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of several VLs in patients undergoing general anesthesia. METHODS: Medline, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched until 13 January 2020. The following VLs were evaluated compared to the Macintosh laryngoscope (MCL) by network meta-analysis for randomized controlled trials (RCTs):
[Purpose] The leg angles that are the most effective for abdominal muscle activation were investigated by performing abdominal drawing-in exercises at different leg angles with a biofeedback pressure unit. [Methods] Subjects were asked to adopt a supine position, and the tip of the biofeedback pressure unit was placed under the posterior superior iliac spine. Then, the pressure was adjusted to 40 mmHg while referring to the pressure gauge connected to the biofeedback pressure unit. Subjects were
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the association between total serum cholesterol levels and outcomes upon discharge in patients after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study using the Korean Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation Consortium (KoCARC) registry. Patients after OHCA whose total serum cholesterol levels were measured within 24 h after arriving at the emergency department were included in the analysis. The association between tota
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to examine whether a trunk forward bending angle in sitting position affected slow vital capacity (SVC). [Subjects and Methods] The subjects of this study were 18 healthy college students to whom the study's methods and purpose were explained and their agreement for participation was obtained. Slow vital capacity was measured using spirometry (Pony FX, COSMED Inc., Italy), repeatedly at a body bending angle of 0°, 15°, and 30° in the sitting position. [Res
Background: Delayed neuropsychiatric sequelae (DNS) are a severe complication of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, and predicting DNS is difficult. This study aimed to investigate whether cardiac markers can be used as biomarkers to predict DNS occurrence following acute CO poisoning. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study that included patients with acute CO poisoning who visited two emergency medical centers in Korea from January 2008 to December 2020. The primary outcome was whet
Since the Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) development, many efforts have been made to increase stability. The error due to the timing parameter is also one of the factors that hinder stability. In this paper, we model the I2C slave using Verilog and then perform a simple read/write operation to investigate timing parameter errors. As a solution, we present a timing parameter error detection module for the I2C protocol. The proposed module is developed based on the I2C standard mode to verify the
