SJR Q2Acta OncologicaOA

We investigated the Bcl-2 and P53 protein expressions in 89 patients with bladder cancers using immunohistochemical analysis. In superficial tumors, the times of tumor recurrence and progression were significantly shorter in the P53-positive group than in the negative group (p < 0.005, p < 0.05, respectively). In invasive tumors, the disease-specific actuarial survivals were significantly lower in the P53 and Bcl-2-positive groups (p <0.05, p < 0.025, respectively). In multivariate analysis, ove

SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Microcystic meningioma is a distinct morphological variant of meningioma, characterized by loose texture and microcysts with formation of large extracellular spaces containing edematous fluid. The tumor cells have stellate and vacuolated cytoplasm with long cytoplasmic processes. We experienced a case of typical microcystic meningioma occurring in the falx cerebri adjacent to the left superior parasagittal sinus in a 41-year-old man. The tumor showed the typical histologic features with a few ne

Atretic encephalocele/myelocele: case reports with emphasis on pathogenesis
Eun Kyung Hong, Nam Hoon Kim, Jung Dal Lee
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Atretic encephaloceles or myelomeningoceles are frequently solid due to hamartomatous proliferation of fibrous tissue and blood vessels. Because of the fibrous nature of the tumor with no cystic cavity and unusual location with no connection to CNS, they are frequently regarded as insignificant hamartomas. Apart from this terminology, they are also described as cutaneous meningiomas or hamartomas with ectopic meningothelial elements by the presence of meningothelial cells. We report a case of at

Chan Kum Park, Y.H. Ko, Moon Hyang Park, Jung Dal Lee, Chang Woo Lee
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

A rare case of polyangiitis overlap syndrome is described. The patient was a 25-year-old man who had palpable purpura on his legs which showed leukocytoclastic vasculitis, and polyarteritis nodosa. Superior mesenteric arteriography showed microaneurysms in jejunal branches with focal segmental necrotizing arteritis of small and medium sized muscular arteries in the jejunum. Deposits of IgA and C3 in the superficial blood vessels of the lesional skin were consistent with the features of Henoch-Sc

Malignant lymphomas of the nasal cavity and Waldeyer's Ring: clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical study
Young Hyeh Ko, Jung Dal Lee, Chong Man Kim, In Soon Kim, Myung Ja Lee
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

The clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical finding of 10 cases of nasal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) and 23 cases of Waldeyer's ring NHL were studied. Immunohistochemically, nasal NHL expressed T-cell markers exclusively, whereas the NHL of Waldeyer's ring were of both T-cell (56.5%) and B-cell lineages (43.5%). Angioinvasiveness by tumor cells was exclusively noted in the T-lineage lymphomas. Epithelial hyperplasia, epitheliotropism by tumor cells, and extensive invasion of adjacent normal t

The cellular features diagnostic of ASC present in one preparation can manifest themselves differently in the other. Changes in individual cells, particularly nuclear changes, are the most reliable features for diagnosing ASC. The Cell Scan 1500™ processor is more effective at detecting ASC than are CP smears.

SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

In order to elucidate the dynamic changes of oncogene expression in the sequential cascade of squamous metaplasia, dysplasia, and squamous cell carcinoma of the bronchial epithelium, hybridization in situ was employed with a biotinylated oncogene probe. The expression of c-myc was localized exclusively in nuclei. While normal bronchial epithelium revealed no discernible clumps of c-myc grains, except occasional grains less than 3 per cell, squamous metaplasia showed increased number of grains an

The distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA in tumor tissue sections from six Korean patients with HBsAg positive hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was examined by in situ hybridization using a biotin-labeled recombinant, cloned HBV DNA probe. All patients tested were positive for both HBeAg and anti-HBc in their sera. HBV DNA was distributed abundantly in the cytoplasm and rarely in the nuclei of tumor cells. The validity of the in situ hybridization assay was confirmed by the dot blotting tec
