SJR Q1Cephalalgia

BACKGROUND: Vestibular symptoms/signs frequently coexist with migraine, but the mechanisms of migraine-related vestibular dysfunction remain to be elucidated. This study aimed to determine altered brain metabolism in vestibular migraine. METHODS: Two patients with vestibular migraine underwent (18)F-fluorodeoxy glucose (FDG) positron-emission tomography (PET) during and between attacks of vestibular migraine in addition to detailed neurotological evaluation. We analyzed the regional brain metabo

Differential coding of reward and movement information in the dorsomedial striatal direct and indirect pathways
Jung Hwan Shin, Dohoung Kim, Min Whan Jung
SJR Q1Nature CommunicationsOA

The direct and indirect pathways of the basal ganglia have long been thought to mediate behavioral promotion and inhibition, respectively. However, this classic dichotomous model has been recently challenged. To better understand neural processes underlying reward-based learning and movement control, we recorded from direct (dSPNs) and indirect (iSPNs) pathway spiny projection neurons in the dorsomedial striatum of D1-Cre and D2-Cre mice performing a probabilistic Pavlovian conditioning task. dS

SJR Q1Proceedings of the National Academy of SciencesOA

To obtain insights into striatal neural processes underlying reward-based learning and movement control, we examined spatial organizations of striatal neurons related to movement and reward-based learning. For this, we recorded the activity of direct- and indirect-pathway neurons (D1 and A2a receptor-expressing neurons, respectively) in mice engaged in probabilistic classical conditioning and open-field free exploration. We found broadly organized functional clusters of striatal neurons in the d

SJR Q1NeurologyOA

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate longitudinal changes in the dopamine transporter (DAT) availability in association with the prodromal markers in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), we analyzed a longitudinal prospective iRBD cohort data. METHOD: F-FP-CIT PET scans every 2 years. We calculated the DAT pattern by performing the principal component analysis of tracer uptakes in 6 striatal regions. RESULT: DAT patterns in patients with iRBD with baseline hyposmia, constipation, and mild parkinson

SJR Q2Journal of Movement DisordersOA

α-Synuclein and tau deposition in the central nervous system is responsible for various parkinsonian syndromes, including Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, dementia with Lewy bodies, progressive supranuclear palsy and corticobasal degeneration. Emerging evidence has suggested that pathologic α-synuclein and tau are transmitted from cell to cell and further accelerate the aggregation of pathologic proteins in neighboring cells. Furthermore, extracellular pathologic proteins have also

Because the statistical analysis between the normal controls and patients with low range expansions failed to show any differences so far, we must consider that clinical cases with low range expansions could be idiopathic movement disorders showing coincidental CAG/CAA expansions. Thus, we need to reconsider the pathologic role of low range expansions (41-42). Long term follow up and comprehensive investigations using autopsy and imaging studies in patients and controls with low range expansions

To elucidate the biomarkers related to survival in multiple system atrophy(MSA), we analyzed the predictability of retrospectively collected blood markers for survival in 650 probable MSA. High absolute neutrophil count, red-cell distribution width, C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and low hemoglobin, protein, albumin, and creatinine were correlated with higher mortality in MSA. Systemic alteration in inflammation and nutritional status in the early stage are associated with h

SJR Q1Translational NeurodegenerationOA

Abstract Background The isolated rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is a prodromal condition of Lewy body disease including Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). We aim to investigate the longitudinal evolution of DLB-related cortical thickness signature in a prospective iRBD cohort and evaluate the possible predictive value of the cortical signature index in predicting dementia-first phenoconversion in individuals with iRBD. Methods We enrolled 22 DLB patients,

SJR Q2Journal of Movement DisordersOA

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop an automated and objective tool to evaluate postural abnormalities in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. METHODS: We applied a deep learning-based pose-estimation algorithm to lateral photos of prospectively enrolled PD patients (n = 28). We automatically measured the anterior flexion angle (AFA) and dropped head angle (DHA), which were validated with conventional manual labeling methods. RESULTS: The automatically measured DHA and AFA were in excellent agre

Abstract There is a clinically unmet need for a neuropsychological tool that reflects the pathophysiology of cognitive dysfunction in cerebellar degeneration. We investigated cognitive flexibility in degenerative cerebellar ataxia patients and aim to identify the pathophysiological correlates of cognitive dysfunction in relation to cerebellar cognitive circuits. We prospectively enrolled degenerative cerebellar ataxia patients with age-matched healthy controls who underwent 3 T 3D and resting-st
