Effect of tranexamic acid on melasma: a clinical trial with histological evaluation
Jung‐Im Na, Seo Young Choi, Seung Hye Yang, Hye-Ryung Choi, Hee Young Kang, K.‐C. Park
SJR Q1Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology

BACKGROUND: Melasma is associated with epidermal hyperpigmentation, weak basement membrane, vascular proliferation and increased numbers of mast cell. Tranexamic acid (TXA), a plasmin inhibitor, is reported to improve melasma when injected locally. However, the effects of oral and topical TXA on melasma have not been well studied and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. OBJECTIVES: To elucidate the effects of oral and topical TXA on melasma. METHODS: A clinical study was conducted with 25 w

SJR Q2Dermatologic Surgery

BACKGROUND: Fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing (FxCR) has shown considerable efficacy in reducing wrinkles, although complications such as scarring and prolonged erythema are more common and down-time is longer than with nonablative laser treatment. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a high concentration of platelets in a small volume of plasma, is known to enhance tissue healing. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the benefits of PRP in the wound healing process after FxCR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-

Resveratrol as a Multifunctional Topical Hypopigmenting Agent
Jung‐Im Na, Jung Won Shin, Hye-Ryung Choi, Soon‐Hyo Kwon, Kyung-Chan Park
SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

Melanin is produced in melanocytes and stored in melanosomes, after which it is transferred to keratinocytes and, thus, determines skin color. Despite its beneficial sun-protective effects, abnormal accumulation of melanin results in esthetic problems. A range of topical hypopigmenting agents have been evaluated for their use in the treatment of pigmentary disorders with varying degrees of success. Hydroquinone (HQ), which competes with tyrosine, is the main ingredient in topical pharmacological

Indole‐3‐acetic acid: A potential new photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy of acne vulgaris
Jung‐Im Na, So‐Young Kim, Jeong‐Hye Kim, Sang Woong Youn, Chang‐Hun Huh, Kyoung‐Chan Park
SJR Q1Lasers in Surgery and Medicine

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: ALA (5-aminolevulinic acid) photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new treatment option for acne. However, it needs a relatively long incubation period and adverse effects are common. Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) is not toxic by itself but produces free radicals with ultraviolet B. In this study we examined the potential of IAA as a photosensitizer for acne treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Free radical formation was measured after visible light irradiation of IAA. Soon‐Hyo Kwon, Ji Hoon Yang, Jung Won Shin, Kyoung‐Chan Park, Chang‐Hun Huh, Jung‐Im Na
SJR Q2Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology

BACKGROUNDS: We previously reported the efficacy of 0.1% 4-n-butylresorcinol (4nBR) cream in the treatment melasma and synergistic effect of 4nBR and resveratrol (RSV) to inhibit melanogenesis in vitro. AIMS: To evaluate efficacy and safety of a cream which contains liposome-encapsulated 4nBR and RSV in the treatment of melasma. PATIENTS/METHODS: A total of 21 female patients with melasma were treated with the cream for 4 weeks. At baseline, week 2, and week 4, melanin index (MI) of the lesional

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in December 2019, more than 4 million people have died worldwide. The global pandemic of COVID-19 has prompted each country to issue an emergency use authorization for COVID-19 vaccines. In South Korea, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety authorized the administration of four vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2, New York, NY, USA), Moderna (mRNA-1273, Cambridge, MA, USA), Oxford–AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1, Cambridge, UK) and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen (JNJ-78436735, Be

Model Dermatology ( https://modelderm.com ; Build2021) is a publicly testable neural network that can classify 184 skin disorders. We aimed to investigate whether our algorithm can classify clinical images of an Internet community along with tertiary care center datasets. Consecutive images from an Internet skin cancer community ('RD' dataset, 1,282 images posted between 25 January 2020 to 30 July 2021; https://reddit.com/r/melanoma ) were analyzed retrospectively, along with hospital datasets (

Importance: Artificial intelligence (AI) training for diagnosing dermatologic images requires large amounts of clean data. Dermatologic images have different compositions, and many are inaccessible due to privacy concerns, which hinder the development of AI. Objective: To build a training data set for discriminative and generative AI from unstandardized internet images of melanoma and nevus. Design, Setting, and Participants: In this diagnostic study, a total of 5619 (CAN5600 data set) and 2006

BACKGROUND: Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) filler is known to have continuous volume effect. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to analyze objective volume effect of PLLA in different settings of injection schedule on the cheek. METHODS: A split-face, evaluator-blind randomized study in 24 volunteers was conducted. One side was injected 3 times with 4 cc dose and the other side was injected 2 times with 6 cc dose per visit. Background: Scalp-related symptoms such as dandruff and itching are common with diverse underlying etiologies. We previously proposed a novel classification and scoring system for scalp conditions, called the scalp photographic index (SPI); it grades five scalp features using trichoscopic images with good reliability. However, it requires trained evaluators.Aim: To develop artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for assessment of scalp conditions and to assess the feasibility of AI-based recomme

SJR Q2Pediatric Dermatology

Angioblastoma usually develops in infancy or early childhood on the neck or upper trunk. It is known to be slowly progressive and benign in nature, but treatment guidelines have not yet been established. Spontaneous regression has been occasionally documented, and treatment with pulsed dye laser, excision, high-dose steroids, and interferon alpha have been successful in individual patients. Our patient experienced partial response to interferon alpha injection, and for further treatment, long-pu
