15Axillary lymph node (LN) metastasis is the most important predictor of overall recurrence and survival in patients with breast cancer, and accurate assessment of axillary LN involvement is an essential component in staging breast cancer. Axillary management in patients with breast cancer has become much less invasive and individualized with the introduction of sentinel LN biopsy (SLNB). Emerging evidence indicates that axillary LN dissection may be avoided in selected patients with node-positive
Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) is being used more and more to differentiate benign from malignant focal lesions and it has been shown to be more efficacious than conventional chest computed tomography (CT). However, FDG is not a cancer-specific agent, and false positive findings in benign diseases have been reported. Infectious diseases (mycobacterial, fungal, bacterial infection), sarcoidosis, radiation pneumonitis and post-operative surgical conditions have shown i
The diagnostic performance of shear-wave and strain elastography was similar. Either elastography technique can improve overall diagnostic performance in the differentiation of benign and malignant lesions when combined with B-mode ultrasound. However, the sensitivity and specificity of shear-wave and strain elastography were different according to lesion histologic profile, tumor grade, and breast thickness.
Breast thickness at the location of the lesion was the most important factor influencing image quality at US elastography. Sensitivity for classification of benign and malignant masses improved with higher quality scores.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to retrospectively assess the upgrade rate determined by surgery for sonographically detected benign papillomas at core needle biopsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-four benign papillomas, detected during screening ultrasound and diagnosed at ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy in 58 patients (mean age, 44.6 years; range, 30-67 years), were surgically excised. The upgrade rate to atypical lesion and malignancy was determined on a per-lesion basis. Statisti
The appearance of several unusual tumours in the prostate has resulted in questions being raised concerning their histogenesis; moreover, some of these tumours have prognoses that are quite unlike those of prostatic adenocarcinoma. Unusual neoplasms involving the prostate have been described in recent years, including mucinous cystadenocarcinoma, neuroendocrine cancer, lymphoma, spindle cell neoplasm, squamous cell carcinoma and transitional cell carcinoma. Radiological findings can overlap, and
A major limitation of screening breast ultrasound (US) is a substantial number of false-positive biopsy. This study aimed to develop a deep learning-based computer-aided diagnosis (DL-CAD)-based diagnostic model to improve the differential diagnosis of screening US-detected breast masses and reduce false-positive diagnoses. In this multicenter retrospective study, a diagnostic model was developed based on US images combined with information obtained from the DL-CAD software for patients with bre
BACKGROUND: Ultrasonography (US) has been used as an important adjunct to mammography (MG), and automated breast US (ABUS) scanners were originally designed to effectively examine the breast in its entirety. PURPOSE: To retrospectively assess the performance of radiologists in the detection of breast cancers, initially detected by hand-held ultrasound (HHUS), using 3D breast volume data obtained from a commercial ABUS system. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Bilateral whole breast US was performed using AB
