15Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent anxiety disorder marked by behavioral, physiologic, and hormonal alterations. The etiology of PTSD is unknown, although exposure to a traumatic event constitutes a necessary, but not sufficient, factor. Serotonergic dysfunction has been implicated in PTSD. The present study examined the possible association between the serotonin-transporter-linked polymorphic region (SERTPR) and PTSD. The genotype and allele frequencies of the SERTPR were analy
In this study, increased plasma oxytocin levels were associated with higher social anxiety symptoms among SAD patients, but not among controls. This might be because among SAD patients, higher oxytocin (OT) secretion is an insufficient compensatory attempt to reduce social anxiety symptoms.
Attention appears to be inheritable, stable and influenced by genetic factors. The use of the Continuous Performance Test (CPT), as an endophenotypic measure, is valuable for genetic studies because it may show increased sensitivity to specific dimensions in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, few studies have been designed to examine the influence of the genotype on attention level measured by CPT in ADHD patients. This study examinee the difference between 10/10 and 10/* genotyp
AIM: Normal individuals are risk averse for decisions framed as gains but risk taking for decisions framed as losses. This framing effect is supposed to be attenuated in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. We investigated the effects of highlighting rewards versus highlighting punishments on the risky decision-making of AD patients. METHOD: Fourteen mild to moderate AD patients (Mini-Mental Status Examination score, 11-23; Clinical Dementia Rating, 1-2) and 16 healthy volunteers were recruited fo
This result suggests that the alterations of reaction time and accuracy of emotion recognition of SAD patients, especially in emotions with positive valence, play a more important role than negative bias in the cognitive aspects of SAD.
The results suggest that a ≥10% reduction in the LSAS total score in a week can predict endpoint treatment response.
Objective: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) shows relatively delayed responses to pharmacotherapy when compared to other anxiety disorders. Therefore, more effective early therapeutic decisions can be made if the therapeutic response is predictable as early as possible. We studied whether the therapeutic response at 12 weeks is predictable based on the early improvement with escitalopram at 1 week. Methods: The subjects were 28 outpatients diagnosed with SAD. The subjects took 10-20 mg/day of escit
The prevalence rate of Social Phobia (Social anxiety disorder) varies among cultures and patient populations. Possible reasons for this differences are that the expression of social anxiety may differ according to cultures. It has been suggested that offensive type of social phobia (which is similar with taijin kyofusho;a kind of culture-bound syndrome in DSM-IV) exist in east-asian countries, especially Korea and Japan, and it shares many common aspect with the western concept of social phobia.
Although generalized anxiety disorder(GAD) is a common disorder with significant impairments in clinical field, little is known about exact diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The reasons of little information about diagnosis and differential diagnosis of GAD are 1) changing and vagueness of diagnostic criteria of GAD, 2) multiple medical and psychiatric co-morbidity, 3) atypical presentation of clinical symptoms, 4) patterns of treatment seeking 5) late introduction of effective treatment mod

Introduction This study is about the clinical uses of three antidepressants( escitalopram, desvenlafaxine, vortioxetine) in the treatment of anxioun depression. Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of escitalopram, desvenlafaxine, vortioxetine, and aripiprazole augmentation with escitalopram in the acute treatment of anxious depression. Methods Patients (n=189) with DSM5 major depression and high levels of anxiety were evenly randomized to escitalopram, des
Objectives : Insomnia is significantly influenced by the pre-sleep arousal, self efficacy, sleep hygiene, depression and anxiety. The authors tried to explore how these factors are related with the clinical features of sleep. Methods : Fifty three patients diagnosed as insomnia by DSM-IV criteria were studied. They filled up the pre-sleep arousal scale(PSAS), sleep efficacy scale(SES), sleep hygiene awareness and practice scale, BDI, and state and trait anxiety scales. Results: 1) The mean value
There are some studies supporting the association between serum vitamin D level and suicidal idea. Although suicide and vitamin D deficiency are highly prevalent in older persons, only a few studies have been performed in older populations. Our study aims to investigate the association between suicidal ideas and serum vitamin D levels in Korean older workers. From 6,906 Korean workers older than 50 years who attended employee health screenings in the Health Screening Center of one hospital from
Cervical total disc replacement has been in practice for years now as a viable alternative to cervical fusion in suitable cases, aspiring to preserve spinal motion and prevent adjacent segment disease. Reports are rife that neck pain emerges as an annoying feature in the early postoperative period. The facet joint appears to be the most likely source of pain. 50 patients were prospectively followed up through 5 years after having received disc replacement surgery, indicated for symptomatic soft
