BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess the results of curative surgery with and without radiotherapy in patients with T1-2N0-1 oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to evaluate survival and prognostic factors. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 86 patients with T1-2N0-1 OSCC who received surgery between January 2000 and December 2006. Fourteen patients (16.3%) received postoperative radiotherapy (PORT). Patient characteristics, tumor characteristics, treatment modality, failure

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify the comprehensive risk factors for lymphedema, thereby enabling a more informed multidisciplinary treatment decision-making. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Lymphedema is a serious long-term complication in breast cancer patients post-surgery; however, the influence of multimodal therapy on its occurrence remains unclear. METHODS: We retrospectively collected treatment-related data from 5549 breast cancer patients who underwent surgery between 2007 and 2

SJR Q1Journal of Surgical OncologyOA

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated late toxicity and infield progression-free survival in patients with locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) who had previously received irradiation to the pelvis. METHODS: Twenty-two patients were treated by reirradiation to the pelvis between January 2000 and August 2007. All patients received curative surgery with preoperative or postoperative chemoradiotherapy as an initial treatment. Five patients (23%) underwent surgical resection after reirradiation. The

SJR Q1Journal of EndodonticsOA

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of dexamethasone after delayed tooth replantation with specific regard to root resorption and ankylosis. In addition, the study was planned to elucidate further the usefulness of the model. Fifty-two maxillary first molar teeth were extracted from 26 Sprague-Dawley white female rats fed 0.4% beta-aminoproprionitrile for 3 days to facilitate the extraction. After extraction, the mesiobuccal root canals were endodontically treated under a micros

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

Background: To investigate the prognostic value of pre-treatment neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients treated with definitive radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 621 patients who received definitive RT for nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, and laryngeal cancer. An NLR cut-off value of 2.7 was identified using a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, with overall survival (OS) as an endpoint. Results: The 5-year progres

SJR Q1Radiation OncologyOA

BACKGROUND: Synchronous liver metastases are detected in approximately 25% of colorectal cancer patients at diagnosis. The rates of local failure and distant metastasis are substantial in these patients, even after undergoing aggressive treatments including resection of primary and metastatic liver tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine whether adjuvant pelvic radiotherapy is beneficial for pelvic control and overall survival in rectal cancer patients with synchronous liver metastasi

SJR Q1Head & NeckOA

BACKGROUND: In this study, we compared the treatment outcomes of postoperative 3D conformal radiotherapy (RT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for patients with maxillary sinus carcinoma. METHODS: Fifty-four patients underwent surgery and postoperative RT, of whom 27 (50%) had squamous cell carcinoma and 14 (26%) had adenoid cystic carcinoma. Nineteen patients (35%) were treated with IMRT and 35 patients (65%) received 3D conformal RT. The median radiation dose for 3D conformal RT and

Patterns of local recurrence after curative resection and reconstruction for oropharyngeal and oral cancers: Implications for postoperative radiotherapy target volumes
Yeona Cho, Hong In Yoon, Ik Jae Lee, Jun Won Kim, Chang Geol Lee, Eun Chang Choi, Se‐Heon Kim, Ki Chang Keum
SJR Q1Head & NeckOA

BACKGROUND: We aimed to determine the patterns of local recurrence after curative resection and reconstruction for oropharyngeal and oral cancers. METHODS: One hundred-fourteen patients with oropharyngeal and oral cancers underwent resection and reconstruction. The local recurrences were classified as "intra-flap" (the recurrent tumor was located in the flap tissue), "marginal" (≤5 mm from the flap anastomosis), and "outside" (in the original tissue and >5 mm from the anastomosis) recurrences. SJR Q1OtolaryngologyOA

OBJECTIVE: In an attempt to identify molecular markers predictive of occult neck metastases, we investigated whether positive p53 or proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) immunoreactivities on deparaffinized sections of the primary tumor are correlated to the presence of occult neck node metastases in oral tongue cancer patients with clinically negative cervical nodes (N0). STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Between 1986 and 1997, 37 clinically N0 patients who underwent neck dissection (25 male, 12 f

SJR Q3American Journal of Clinical OncologyOA

OBJECTIVES: Triple-negative breast cancers (TNBC) is an aggressive disease and often associated with early distant metastases, which negate the role of adjuvant radiotherapy. We studied the clinical utility of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) and other available factors in predicting clinical outcome in TNBC. METHODS: Of the 539 patients with newly diagnosed TNBC between 2004 and 2011, we analyzed 117 patients who had both tumor samples which PD-L1 protein expression could be evaluated using im

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine whether pretreatment 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) volumetric parameters add more prognostic information to p16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 86 patients with p16-positive oropharyngeal SCC who underwent surgery and postoperative radiotherapy (RT) or chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
