15Although paragangliomas can occur in a variety of anatomic locations, the majority are seen in relatively predictable regions of the body. Extraadrenal paragangliomas have nearly identical imaging features, including a homogeneous or heterogeneous hyperenhancing soft-tissue mass at CT, multiple areas of signal void interspersed with hyperintense foci (salt-and-pepper appearance) within tumor mass at MRI, and an intense tumor blush with enlarged feeding arteries at angiography.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Although CT findings of Kikuchi disease (KD), or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, are reported in several case reports, large-scale analysis of the disease has not been undertaken. We characterized the clinical and CT findings in a large group of patients with KD. METHODS: Between 1990 and 2002, 96 patients (68 women, 28 men; mean age, 24.4 years) underwent biopsy of the cervical lymph nodes and had histologically proved KD at our institution. We reviewed their clin
According to recent studies, patients with COVID-19 have different feature characteristics on chest X-ray (CXR) than those with other lung diseases. This study aimed at evaluating the layer depths and degree of fine-tuning on transfer learning with a deep convolutional neural network (CNN)-based COVID-19 screening in CXR to identify efficient transfer learning strategies. The CXR images used in this study were collected from publicly available repositories, and the collected images were classifi
The characteristic CT and clinical findings of PAIS may help achieve early diagnosis of PAIS and make better survival outcomes of patients. MRI and PET-CT can be used as second-line imaging modalities and could help distinguish PAIS from PTE and to plan clinical management.
Lung cysts are commonly seen on computed tomography (CT), and cystic lung diseases show a wide disease spectrum. Thus, correct diagnosis of cystic lung diseases is a challenge for radiologists. As the first diagnostic step, cysts should be distinguished from cavities, bullae, pneumatocele, emphysema, honeycombing, and cystic bronchiectasis. Second, cysts can be categorized as single/localized versus multiple/diffuse. Solitary/localized cysts include incidental cysts and congenital cystic disease
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distinctive computed tomographic(CT) features of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae (KLA). METHODS: 114 PLA patients (62 men, 52 women, age range 25-89 years, mean age 60.9 years) with positive yield of blood or pus cultures were divided into 2 groups; KLA group (n = 58) and non-KLA group (n = 56). We retrospectively reviewed the CT images. The independent-sample t-test, X2 test, or Fisher's exact test were used with SPSS for windows versio
Computed tomography (CT) is an important imaging modality in evaluating thoracic malignancies. The clinical utility of dual-energy spectral computed tomography (DESCT) has recently been realized. DESCT allows for virtual monoenergetic or monochromatic imaging, virtual non-contrast or unenhanced imaging, iodine concentration measurement, and effective atomic number (Zeff map). The application of information gained using this technique in the field of thoracic oncology is important, and
There is a strong relationship between CT quantitative analysis and the COPD candidate gene. Furthermore, the CTGA diplotype was associated with emphysema among the phenotypes of COPD.
The goals of this study were to determine whether bone density measured using CT (CTBD) can show significant differences in bone loss according to smoking status and pack-years, and to examine the correlation between CTBD and bone mineral density when measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA-BMD) in males without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In this cross-sectional study, 1,011 males without airflow obstruction ≥50 years old were included. CTBD and DEXA-BMD were compar
OBJECTIVES: Repetitive unbalances and tensions generated by inspiratory efforts against an obstructive upper airway during sleep predispose the development of expiratory central airway collapse. In addition, structures of the upper airway between men and women have differences and could be the reasons for differences in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) prevalence between genders. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between parameters of expiratory dynamic tracheal collapse measured
Objective: Ultrasound-guided needle localization has been used prior to the surgical excision of nonpalpable breast lesions. The aim of the study was to assess the feasibility of the use of a saline immersion specimen ultrasound technique (immersion-US) to confirm the successful removal of breast lesions. Materials and Methods: The devised immersion-US technique was used to examine the excised tissues of 72 ultrasound-guided needle localized breast lesions of 58 patients (34 benign lesions, 30 h
