15Background and Purpose- Although there are a variety of risk factors and predictive models for stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP), more objective and easily accessible markers are still needed. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and SAP in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods- We assessed 1317 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke. SAP was defined according to the modified Centers for Disease Control and Prevention crite
BACKGROUND: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a marker of insulin resistance (IR) and has been associated with various metabolic syndromes, cardiovascular diseases, and cerebrovascular diseases. However, limited information is available regarding its association with subclinical cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD). In this study, we evaluated the relationship between the TyG index and cSVD, including silent brain infarcts (SBIs) and white matter hyperintensity (WMH). METHODS: We assessed
The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been associated with various metabolic, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular diseases. We evaluated the association between the TyG index and early recurrent ischemic lesions (ERILs) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We included consecutive patients diagnosed with AIS between 2010 and 2016. ERILs were defined as new diffusion-weighted imaging lesions outside the initial symptomatic lesion area. The TyG index was calculated using the following f
Serum tHcy level is correlated with cSVD development in a dose-dependent manner. These findings provide us with clues for further studies of the pathophysiology of cSVD.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The occurrence of stroke in cancer patients is caused by conventional vascular risk factors and cancer-specific mechanisms. However, cryptogenic stroke in patients with cancer was considered to be more related to cancer-specific hypercoagulability. In this study, we investigated the potential of the D-dimer level to serve as a predictor of early neurologic deterioration (END) in cryptogenic stroke patients with active cancer. METHODS: We recruited 109 cryptogenic stroke p
BACKGROUND: The research about the influence of triglyceride-glucose index on early prognosis in stroke is lacking. AIMS: In this study, we evaluated the association between triglyceride-glucose index and early neurological deterioration in patients with single subcortical infarctions. METHODS: Consecutive patients with single subcortical infarctions within 72 h of symptom onset between 2011 and 2015. Early neurological deterioration was defined as an increase of ≥2 in the total NIHSS score or ≥
Cerebral SVD is associated with recurrent stroke in patients with LAA. Additionally, it may affect any mechanisms of recurrent stroke and even with a dose response manner.
Background and Purpose: Patients with single subcortical infarctions (SSIs) have relatively a favorable prognosis, but they often experience early neurological deterioration (END). In this study, we compared the predictors for END in patients with SSI according to the location of the lesion. Methods: We included consecutive patients with SSIs within 72 hours of symptom onset presenting between 2010 and 2016. END was defined as an increase of ≥2 in the total National Institutes of Health Stroke S
Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a novel inflammatory marker based on the composition ratio of blood cell counts. In this study, we evaluated the association between the SII and cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) in health check-up participants. We evaluated participants from our health check-up registry between 2006 and 2013. The SII was calculated using the following formula: SII = (platelet count × neutrophil count)/lymphocyte count. cSVD was assessed by considering white matter
D-dimer levels may predict 30-day mortality in acute ischemic stroke patients with active cancer.
Serum NLR levels were associated with END events in patients with ischemic stroke due to LAA. Since NLR was also closely correlated with the underlying vascular lesions, our results indicated clues for mechanisms of END events.
