15Mesonephric adenocarcinoma (MNAC) is a rare tumor of the female genital tract mainly occurring in the uterine cervix. To date, only a few cases of MNAC arising from of the uterine body (UB-MNAC) have been reported. The clinicopathologic and molecular characteristics of UB-MNAC remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the clinical, histopathologic, immunohistochemical, and genetic features of UB-MNAC. In total, 11 cases were included. Six patients developed metastatic disease, most commonly
TP53 mutation is almost invariably present in HGSC, and p53 immunostaining can be used as a surrogate marker of TP53 mutation. In cases with a wild-type p53 immunostaining pattern, direct sequencing for TP53 mutational status can be helpful to confirm the presence of a TP53 mutation.
Secretory carcinoma is a salivary gland tumor with a characteristic chromosomal translocation that results in an ETV6-NTRK3 fusion gene. Secretory carcinoma shows relatively frequent rates of lymph-node metastasis and tumor recurrence and has a characteristic histology. Except for the ETV6 translocation, genomic alterations in secretory carcinoma have not been reported. In the present study, we characterized the novel recurrent genetic mutations of secretory carcinoma. On the basis of histology,
Acne keloidalis nuchae, a type of folliculitis involving the back of the neck, is common in black men, although rare cases have been reported in patients of other ethnicities. We analyzed the clinicopathological features of acne keloidalis nuchae in 17 Asians. Patients' age at the time of presentation ranged from 20 to 69 years. Most patients experienced the disease over 2 years (range, 3 months-20 years); follow-up data were available for 11 (65%) patients (range, 2-95 months). Nine (53%) patie
We demonstrated a previously reported CTNNB1 point-mutation using pyrosequencing and a novel deletion mutation in ovarian MCSTs. The review of the literature of previously published cases in combination with our current cases clarifies the clinicopathological characteristics of ovarian MCST and the comprehensive analysis of these cases would expand our knowledge regarding ovarian MCST.
A uterus-like mass (ULM) is a central cavity lined by endometrial glands and stroma and surrounded by thick-walled smooth muscles. To date, 31 cases of ULM have been reported in the English literature. ULM typically presents as a single mass and is located in the pelvic cavity. We report here a very rare case of multiple extrapelvic ULMs involving the cecum, descending colon, and mesocolon. After extensive literature research, our case appears to be the first case of multiple ULMs found in extra
Papillary thyroid carcinoma with nodular fasciitis-like stroma (PTC-NFS) is a rare variant of PTC. The term 'PTC with fibromatosis-like stroma' has been used as a synonym to describe this variant. It is characterized by extensive proliferation of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts in the tumor stroma, which occurs in up to 80% of the tumors. We herein describe a case of PTC-NFS which developed in a 49-year-old woman with the demonstration of findings of ultrasonography, fine needle aspiration cytolo
Our observations suggest that stromal p16 expression may be involved in the development and progression of ovarian adult granulosa cell tumors.
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney (ADPKD) is rare. To date, 54 cases of RCC in ADPKD have been reported. Among these, only 2 cases have different histologic types of RCC. Here we describe a 45-year-old man who received radical nephrectomy for multifocal RCC with synchronous papillary and clear cell histology in ADPKD and chronic renal failure under regular hemodialysis. The case reported herein is another example of the rare pathological finding of RCC arising in
Our observation regarding the occurrence of HSIL involving perianal condyloma acuminatum in human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients suggests that active, complete surgical excision of perianal condyloma acuminatum and a thorough histopathological examination are necessary. The diagnosis of severe nuclear atypia involving the upper two-thirds of the epithelium should be made with great caution.
