15With the increased clinical interest in myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), the international MOGAD panel's proposed criteria were recently released. To evaluate its diagnostic performance, the criteria were applied to a single-center cohort. Among the enrolled 100 patients, 93 fulfilled the criteria throughout the median 24 months of follow-up. All 36 patients with a clear-positive MOG-immunoglobulin G (IgG) satisfied the supporting features, except one who
This study gives a novel insight for the risk factor of postoperative delirium.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized particles secreted by almost all cell types, and they mediate various biological processes via cell-to-cell communication. Compared with parental cells for therapeutic purposes, stem cell-derived EVs have several advantages such as reduced risk of rejection, less oncogenic potential, ease of long-term storage, lower chance of thromboembolism, and readiness for immediate use. Recent studies have demonstrated that EVs from stem cells, mostly from mesench
Background and purpose Anti-titin antibodies are antistriational antibodies associated with thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis (MG). We evaluated whether the patients with anti-titin antibody are more frequently hospitalized to manage thymoma-associated MG than those patients without anti-titin antibody. Methods Patients with thymoma-associated MG who conducted the serological test for anti-titin antibody were retrospectively included. Disease severity, treatments, MG-related annual hospitaliz
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A major concern with ocular myasthenia gravis (MG) is the potential conversion to generalized MG. This study was conducted to determine if the repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) test could predict the conversion from ocular to generalized MG. METHODS: The RNS test was conducted in a consistent manner on five muscles in the face and limbs in every patient. Subjects were divided into those who remained as ocular MG (ROMG group) and those who experienced conversion to genera
Antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG-IgG) have recently been established as a biomarker for MOG-antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), which is a distinct demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Among the diverse clinical phenotypes of MOGAD, myelitis is the second-most-common presentation in adults, followed by optic neuritis. While some features overlap, there are multiple reports of distinctive clinical and radiological features of MOG-IgG-associated myelitis
Recent studies have shown that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can play a restorative role against degenerative joint diseases in horses. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether fetal bone marrow-derived cells (BMC)-derived nanoparticles (BMC-NPs) can stimulate the survival of equine chondrocytes. Equine fetal BMCs were isolated and characterized, and the role of BMC-NPs s in equine chondrocytes undergoing inflammatory cell death was examined. BMCs have several characteristics, such a
Although myelitis is the second most common presentation in adults with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), studies on MOG-IgG seroprevalence in patients with myelitis episodes are sparse. Herein, we investigated MOG-IgG seroprevalence in Korean adults who exhibited myelitis since 2017. Among 151 adults with acute myelitis, 11 (7.3%) tested positive for MOG-IgG by the initial screening and 10 (6.6%) patients were finally diagnosed with MOGAD during the
BACKGROUND: The risk-benefit relationship of immunosuppressive therapies (ISTs) for elderly patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is not well established. This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of IST in elderly patients with NMOSD. METHODS: This retrospective study analysed IST efficacy and safety in 101 patients with aquaporin-4 antibody-positive NMOSD aged over 65 years, treated for at least 6 months at five Korean referral centres, focusing on relapse
title: Anti-Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-Positive Encephalitis with Seizure and Unilateral Cortical Fluid-Attenuated Inversion Recovery-Hyperintense Lesions, doi: 10.3988/jcn.2021.17.3.481, category: Article
The prevalence of cerebrospinal fluid-specific oligoclonal bands (CSF-OCBs) was reported to be low in Asian people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) compared to that in Western pwMS. It is yet to be determined whether it is a genuine feature of Asian pwMS or a misapprehension owing to past mis-classification of MS-mimicking diseases as MS. We aimed to reappraise the prevalence of CSF-OCBs in Korean pwMS after carefully excluding other central nervous system-inflammatory demyelinating diseases since
Background and Purpose: Natalizumab is a highly efficacious disease-modifying therapy for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). Data on the efficacy and safety profile of natalizumab in Asian patients with MS are limited. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of natalizumab in Korean patients with MS in a real-world setting. Methods: This study enrolled consecutive Korean patients with active relapsing-remitting MS who were treated with natalizumab for at least 6 months between 2015
Unverricht-Lundborg disease (ULD) is a form of progressive myoclonus epilepsy characterized by stimulation-induced myoclonus and seizures. This disease is an autosomal recessive disorder, and the gene CSTB, which encodes cystatin B, a cysteine protease inhibitor, is the only gene known to be associated with ULD. Although the prevalence of ULD is higher in the Baltic region of Europe and the Mediterranean, sporadic cases have occasionally been diagnosed worldwide. The patient described in the cur
