Recent investigations suggest genetic susceptibility of allopurinol-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs). However, the strength of association was variable according to phenotypes and ethnic backgrounds. To explore genetic markers for allopurinol-induced SCARs in Koreans, we genotyped human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I alleles of 25 cases of allopurinol-induced SCARs (20 cases of drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome and five cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal ne

Public Debt, Corruption and Sustainable Economic Growth

SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

There are many studies that look into the relationship between public debt and economic growth. It is hard to find, however, research addressing the role of corruption between these two variables. Noticing this vacancy in current literature, we strive to investigate the effect of corruption on the relationship between public debt and economic growth. For this purpose, the pooled ordinary least squares (OLS), fixed effects models and the dynamic panel generalized method of moments (GMM) models (A

The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway regulates the development of airway remodeling in patients with asthma

SJR Q1Experimental & Molecular MedicineOA

Airway remodeling is a key characteristic of chronic asthma, particularly in patients with a fixed airflow limitation. The mechanisms underlying airway remodeling are poorly understood, and no therapeutic option is available. The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is involved in various physiological and pathological processes, including fibrosis and smooth muscle hypertrophy. In this study, we investigated the roles of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in airway remodeling in patients with asthma. Wnt7a mRN

These findings suggest that genetic polymorphisms in PTGER2, PTGER3, PTGER4, PTGIR, and TBXA2R play important roles in the pathogenesis of aspirin-intolerant asthma.

Genetic Polymorphisms of Drug-Metabolizing Enzymes and Anti-TB Drug-Induced Hepatitis

SJR Q3Pharmacogenomics

These findings suggest that genetic variants in the promoter and exons of NAT2 increase the risk of anti-TB drug-induced hepatitis by modifying acetylation phenotypes and/or gene expression of NAT2, and there is no essential role for genetic mutation of the other metabolizing enzymes in the development of this adverse reaction.

SJR Q1The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology In PracticeOA

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have suggested that respiratory virus infections may be associated with new-onset asthma. However, whether coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with an increased risk of new-onset asthma remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate whether recent COVID-19 increases the risk of new-onset asthma and whether COVID-19 vaccination could mitigate this risk. METHODS: We constructed 3 different study designs using the Korean National Health Insurance claim-b

Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein RBD Antibody Levels After Receiving a Second Dose of ChAdOx1 nCov-19 (AZD1222) Vaccine in Healthcare Workers: Lack of Association With Age, Sex, Obesity, and Adverse Reactions

Response to vaccines generally varies according to individual factors of the vaccinated subjects such as demographics and immune status. While there are various reports of factors associated with immunogenicity of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, little is known about those of adenovirus vector vaccines. We conducted a prospective observational study to assess the relationships of antibody level with age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and adverse reactions (ARs) to an adenovirus vector vaccine, ChAdOx1 nCo

Regulation of cell adhesion signaling by synthetic glycopolymer matrix in primary cultured hepatocyte
Sang‐Heon Kim, Jong Hun Kim, Toshihiro Akaike
SJR Q1FEBS Letters

Control of cell-matrix interactions is a central principle for the design of biomaterial in tissue engineering. In this study, we evaluated a synthetic glycopolymer, which is recognized by the asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) expressed on the surface of hepatocytes, as an artificial matrix to regulate integrin-mediated signaling. The phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase was restricted in hepatocytes cultured on the glycopolymer compared with fibronectin. In addition, there was no reorgani

BACKGROUND: While initial education and regular evaluation of inhaler technique in patients are emphasized in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, health care professionals are not experienced in using inhalers. This study assessed whether internal medicine residents used common inhalers correctly and whether a single teaching session successfully improved their performance. METHODS: We evaluated 142 internal medicine residents from six university hospitals in Kore

SJR Q3Neuroreport

We investigated whether transplantation of a three-dimensional cell mass of adipose-derived stem cells (3DCM-ASCs) improved hind limb functional recovery by the stimulation of angiogenesis and neurogenesis in a spinal cord injury. In in-vitro experiments, we confirmed that 3DCM-ASCs differentiated into CD31-positive endothelial cells. To evaluate the therapeutic effect of 3DCM-ASCs in vivo, PBS, human adipose tissue-derived stem cells, and 3DCM-ASCs were transplanted into a spinal cord injury mo

SJR Q1Therapeutic Advances in Respiratory DiseaseOA

BACKGROUND: Long-term corticosteroid (CS) use is associated with increased mortality in patients with asthma, and comorbid bronchiectasis is also associated with frequent asthma exacerbation and increased healthcare use. However, there is limited information on whether bronchiectasis further increases mortality in patients with CS-dependent asthma. This study examined the impact of bronchiectasis on mortality in patients with CS-dependent asthma. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of patients with
