김연정 교수의 연구실은 신경퇴행성질환과 대사질환의 예방 및 치료를 위한 생물학적 메커니즘 규명에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 특히 알츠하이머병과 파킨슨병의 병태생리에서 단백질 변형과 산화 스트레스의 역할을 중심으로, 비타민 D, 비타민 C, 레이드 등 영양소 및 천연물질의 신경보호 효과를 실험적으로 분석하고 있습니다. 또한, 환경적 요인(예: 만성 스트레스)이 뇌 기능에 미치는 영향과 이를 개선하는 간접적 치료 전략(예: 환경 풍부화)의 기전을 탐구하고 있습니다.
