Prediction of rupture risk in cerebral aneurysms by comparing clinical cases with fluid–structure interaction analyses

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Cerebral aneurysms should be treated on the basis of accurate rupture risk prediction. Nowadays, the rupture risk in aneurysms has been estimated using hemodynamic parameters. In this paper, we suggest a new way to predict the rupture risks in cerebral aneurysms by using fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis for better decision-making regarding treatment. A patient-specific model was constructed using digital subtraction angiography of 51 cerebral aneurysms. For each model, a thin-walled ar

SJR Q1Journal of neurosurgeryOA

OBJECTIVE: Rete middle cerebral artery (MCA) is extremely rare and has not been frequently discussed. Rete MCA is a weblike anomaly of the MCA that does not coalesce and forms a prominent, large single branch from the plexiform vessels in the fetal stage. The purpose of this study was to further elucidate the clinical and radiological characteristics of patients with rete MCA. METHODS: A total of 2262 cerebral digital subtraction angiography procedures were performed on 1937 patients at the auth

SJR Q1Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery

BACKGROUND: Cerebral aneurysms should be treated before rupture because ruptured aneurysms result in serious disability. Therefore, accurate prediction of rupture risk is important and has been estimated using various hemodynamic factors. OBJECTIVE: To suggest a new way to predict rupture risk in cerebral aneurysms using a novel deep learning model based on hemodynamic parameters for better decision-making about treatment. METHODS: A novel convolutional neural network (CNN) model was used for ru

Prediction of Thin-Walled Areas of Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysms through Comparison of Normalized Hemodynamic Parameters and Intraoperative Images
Kwang‐Chun Cho, Ji Hun Choi, Je Hoon Oh, Yong Bae Kim
SJR Q2BioMed Research InternationalOA

Object. Rupture of a cerebral aneurysm occurs mainly in a thin-walled area (TWA). Prediction of TWAs would help to assess the risk of rupture and select appropriate treatment strategy. There are several limitations of current prediction techniques for TWAs. To predict TWAs more accurately, HP should be normalized to minimize the influence of analysis conditions, and the effectiveness of normalized, combined hemodynamic parameters (CHPs) should be investigated with help of the quantitative color

The quantitative comparison between high wall shear stress and high strain in the formation of paraclinoid aneurysms

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

In the hemodynamic study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has shown that high wall shear stress (WSS) is an important parameter in cerebral aneurysm formation. However, CFD analysis is not more realistic than fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis given its lack of considering the involvement of vascular structures. To investigate the relationship between the hemodynamic parameters and the aneurysm formation, the locations of high WSS and high strain were extracted from the CFD a

SJR Q2BMC Musculoskeletal DisordersOA

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been known to accelerate bone healing. Many cells and molecules have been investigated but the exact mechanism is still unknown. The neuroinflammatory state of TBI has been reported recently. We aimed to investigate the effect of TBI on fracture healing in patients with tibia fractures and assess whether the factors associated with hematoma formation changed more significantly in the laboratory tests in the fractures accompanied with TBI. METHODS: We

Safety and Efficacy of Early Cranioplasty after Decompressive Craniectomy in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients
Kwang‐Chun Cho, Sung-Choon Park, Il-Seung Choe, Dae-Hee Seo
Journal of Korean Neurotraumatology Society

Large cranial defects can result from decompressive craniectomy performed for rapid relief of intractable intracranial hypertension. Decompressive craniectomy reduces the risk of death in patients experiencing severe brain edema. However, patients with large cranial defects may experience complications, including sinking flap syndrome and syndrome of the trephined. A large cranial defect is one of the indications for cranioplasty, and, according to prior practice, this procedure is commonly perf

The Current Limitations and Advanced Analysis of Hemodynamic Study of Cerebral Aneurysms
Kwang‐Chun Cho
SJR Q2NeurointerventionOA

Among the various perspectives on cerebrovascular diseases, hemodynamic analysis-which has recently garnered interest-is of great help in understanding cerebrovascular diseases. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has been the primary hemodynamic analysis method, and studies on cerebral aneurysms have been actively conducted. However, owing to the intrinsic limitations of the analysis method, the role of wall shear stress (WSS), the most representative parameter, remains controversial. H

SJR Q2Neurological ResearchOA

Objectives: Basilar artery trunk aneurysms (BTAs) are a rare pathology and difficult to treat. We present our experience regarding angiographic results and clinical outcomes for 16 BTAs treated by reconstructive endovascular treatment (EVT) using stent or balloon. Methods: Between January 2003 and December 2014, 15 patients (mean age, 58.6 years; 11 males) with 16 BTAs were enrolled. Clinical manifestation, outcomes and procedural complications were evaluated retrospectively, and f

SJR Q2Journal of Korean Neurosurgical SocietyOA

Bilateral traumatic carotid-cavernous fistulae (TCCFs) is rarely encountered neurovascular disease. For treatment of TCCF, detachable balloons have been widely used. Nowadays, transarterial and/or transvenous coil embolization with placement of covered stents is adopted as another treatment method. We experienced a patient with a bilateral TCCFs who was successfully treated with covered stents. However, cerebral hemorrhage occurred in the bed of previous infarction one day after treatment. SJR Q1Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & MetabolismOA

Numerous studies have evaluated the effects of hemodynamic parameters on aneurysm formation. However, the reasons why aneurysms do not initiate in intracranial arteries are still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the influence of hemodynamic parameters, wall shear stress (WSS) and strain, on aneurysm formation by comparing between aneurysmal and non-aneurysmal arteries. Fifty-eight patients with paraclinoid aneurysms on one side were enrolled. Based on magnetic resonance angiography, each

METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed cases of patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent MT for anterior circulation occlusion between March 2017 and February 2020. SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intra-arterial (IA) administration of low- dose tirofiban during endovascular therapy in patients with large ischemic core volumes on initial brain CT. Patients were divided into two groups based on the use of IA tirofiban. We identified 87 patients (16 and 71 patients in the tirofiban and no-tirofiban groups, respectively) with acute ischemic stroke due to intracranial artery occlusion who underwent endovascular therapy with a low Alberta
