15BACKGROUND: Community-based health workers (CBHWs) are frontline public health workers who are trusted members of the community they serve. Recently, considerable attention has been drawn to CBHWs in promoting healthy behaviors and health outcomes among vulnerable populations who often face health inequities. OBJECTIVES: We performed a systematic review to synthesize evidence concerning the types of CBHW interventions, the qualification and characteristics of CBHWs, and patient outcomes and cost
Evidence supports a positive link between HL and cervical cancer screening. There is only limited evidence to delineate indirect pathways linking HL and cervical cancer screening. Studies using a multidimensional validated measure of HL are needed in diverse groups of women, particularly those with a heightened burden of cervical cancer. With continuing cervical cancer disparities among culturally and linguistically diverse women, delineating how HL influences cervical cancer screening may help

We explored critical care nurses’ experiences with chaplains and perceptions of spiritual care. This was a qualitative study, using in-depth interviews and focus groups with critical care nurses at an academic medical center. Data were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using inductive coding methods. The study included 31 nurses (19 interviews and 2 focus groups). Participants did not feel completely prepared for spiritual assessments; they felt the urge to consult with spiritua
To critically appraise factors influencing human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among immigrant parents in the United States, a comprehensive search of electronic databases and reference lists was conducted. The findings from 22 articles were ordered based on a socioecological model. About 30% of children initiated and 14% completed a three-dose series. Correlates of HPV vaccine initiation rates included lack of information, concerns about vaccine safety and promiscuity, providers' recommendat
Photoconducting nanotube devices consisting of a poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) layer and a carbonized-PPV layer (see Figure) show high photoconductivity efficiencies under illumination by a xenon lamp. This investigation demonstrates the first examples of photoconducting single-bilayer nanotube devices that can be operated over the UV-visible light wavelength range. The bilayer architecture could be useful in photoswitching applications and in nanometer-scale photovoltaic devices.
BACKGROUND: Health literacy has been linked to breast and cervical cancer screening, with inconsistent findings, which may result from the use of nonprobability sampling and a health literacy instrument that measures a subset of health literacy. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the association between health literacy and breast and cervical cancer screening using data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) that uses a nationally representative U.S. probability
The aim of this meta-ethnography is to appraise the types and uses of theories relative to end-of-life decision making and to develop a conceptual framework to describe end-of-life decision making among patients with advanced cancers, heart failure, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their caregivers or providers. We used PubMed, Embase, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases to extract English-language articles published between January 2002 and
BACKGROUND: Understanding how individuals make decisions about Pap tests concerning their personal values helps health-care providers offer tailored approaches to guide patients' decision making. Yet research has largely ignored decision making about Pap tests among immigrant women who experience increased risk of cervical cancer. OBJECTIVE: To explore decision making about Pap tests among Korean immigrant women. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative descriptive study using 32 semi-structured, in-
BACKGROUND: Chronic low back pain can lead to individual suffering, high medical expenditures, and impaired social well-being. Although the role of physical activity in pain management is well established, the underlying mechanisms of biological and clinical outcomes are unknown. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a pain self-management intervention, Problem-Solving Pain to Enhance Living Well, which employs wearable activity tracking technology and nurse consultatio
AIMS: To assess associations among cannabis use, health-related quality of life, exercise, depression and sleep among a nationally representative sample of US adults living with cancer. DESIGN: A cross-sectional correlational study. METHODS: We used survey data from the 2016-2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Analyses were considered for sample weights and the complex designs. Logistic regression was performed to assess associations among cannabis use (0, 1-19, vs. 20-30 [frequent]
