15The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of shear wave elastography (SWE) added to conventional ultrasound (US) in the diagnosis of small (≤2 cm) breast cancer.Among 410 patients who underwent SWE before US-guided biopsy from June 2012 to June 2013, 171 patients (mean age: 45.17 ± 9.37 years) with 177 small (≤2 cm) breast lesions were enrolled in this study. Diagnostic performances of each quantitative SWE parameters were calculated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) cur
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to document the sonographic findings of axillary lymphadenopathy in Kikuchi disease. METHODS: The medical records and sonographic findings of 7 patients with a pathologic diagnosis of Kikuchi disease in the axillary lymph node by sonographically guided core needle biopsy (n=6) or excisional biopsy (n=1) were reviewed. On sonograms, lymph nodes were assessed for their distribution, size, shape, border, echogenicity, and internal architecture, and those son
We report the sonographic features of an intracystic papillary carcinoma of the breast presenting as recurrent hemorrhagic cysts following trauma. A 56-year-old woman presented with palpable breast masses after a traumatic event; sonography showed multiple, well-defined, hemorrhagic cysts. Hemorrhagic fluid was evacuated by fine needle aspiration with no residual lesions. Cytology was negative for malignancy. Five months later, the mass reappeared; sonography demonstrated multiple cysts with sol
ymphangiomas are congenital malformations of the lymphatic system and are thought to result from failure of the lymphatic system to connect with the venous system. Lymphangiomas in the breast are rare entities, and only a few cases have been documented in the literature. Its sonographic appearance is reported as similar to that of a cluster of simple cysts or dilated ducts; however, the echogenicity depends on the size of the lymphatic channels, similar to a hemangioma. Here, we report a case of
OBJECTIVES: To assess the impact of the background parenchymal echotexture on the accuracy of tumor size estimation using breast ultrasound (US). METHODS: A total of 140 women with newly diagnosed invasive breast cancer from January 2014 to December 2015 were enrolled in this study. Two radiologists retrospectively reviewed US images in consensus for background parenchymal echotexture interpretation. The maximum tumor diameter from static images was recorded. Tumor size measurements were conside
We present an interesting case of incidental diffuse fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake at PET in her left breast, related to atypical breastfeeding practice. Clinically, differential diagnoses of diffuse intense FDG uptake in unilateral breast include advanced breast cancer, breast lymphoma and inflammatory condition. However, normal physiologic lactation may also show increased FDG uptake in the breasts. Therefore, if we encounter that finding in daily practice, we should question the patient reg
The purpose of this study was to analyze the background parenchymal echotexture (BP echo) on breast ultrasound in detail and to evaluate the relation BP echo with menopausal status. In addition, we correlated BP echo with mammographic breast density (MGD) and background parenchymal enhancement (BPE) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).The institutional review board of our hospital approved this retrospective study, and the requirement of informed consent was waived. We studied 138 women (mean ag
