Abstract Purpose: To investigate blood-based dynamic biomarkers that predict responses to anti–programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) therapy in solid tumors. Experimental Design: Preplanned biomarker analysis was performed as part of a phase II clinical trial (NCT02607631) in patients with metastatic or refractory thymic epithelial tumors (TETs; n = 31) who received pembrolizumab. The biomarker was further tested in an independent cohort of prospectively recruited patients with metastatic non–s

Importance: Atrial fibrillation (AF) can develop following thoracic irradiation. However, the critical cardiac substructure responsible for AF has not been properly studied. Objective: To describe the incidence of AF in patients with lung cancer and determine predictive cardiac dosimetric parameters. Design, Setting, and Participants: This retrospective cohort study was performed at a single referral center and included 239 patients diagnosed with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and

Although anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1) treatment has shown remarkable anti-tumor efficacy, immune-related adverse events (irAEs) develop with heterogeneous clinical manifestations. However, the immunological understanding of irAEs is currently limited. In the present study, we analyzed peripheral blood T cells obtained from cancer patients who received anti-PD-1 treatment to determine the immunological characteristics of irAEs. This study included 31 patients with refractory thymic epithelial t

Immune checkpoint blockade targeting PD-1 and PD-L1 has resulted in unprecedented clinical benefit for cancer patients. Anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy has become the standard treatment for diverse cancer types as monotherapy or in combination with other anti-cancer therapies, and its indications are expanding. However, many patients do not benefit from anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy due to primary and/or acquired resistance, which is a major obstacle to broadening the clinical applicability of anti-PD-1/PD-L1

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Huge (≥10 cm) hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) show dismal prognosis and only a limited number of cases are eligible for curative resection. We studied the therapeutic benefit of radiotherapy (RT) in patients with huge unresectable HCCs. METHODS: Data from 283 patients with huge HCCs and preserved liver function who underwent non-surgical treatment from July 2001 to March 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into 4 groups according to the initial treatment

Recent advances in breast cancer management might make the use of postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) redundant in the treatment of pT1/T2N1 patients. We investigated the impact of PMRT on disease-free survival (DFS) in these patients who have a low risk of locoregional recurrence (LRR) after contemporary multidisciplinary management.Between 1998 and 2011, 1123 patients underwent upfront surgery for pathologically diagnosed pT1/T2N1 breast cancer, at a single institution. A retrospective review w

PURPOSE: Preclinical data indicate that response to radiotherapy (RT) depends on DNA damage repair. In this study, we investigated the role of mutations in genes related to DNA damage repair in treatment outcome after RT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with solid tumor who participated in next generation sequencing panel screening using biopsied tumor tissue between October 2013 and February 2019 were reviewed and 97 patients that received RT were included in this study. Best response to RT and

Phenotypic and Functional Analysis of Human NK Cell Subpopulations According to the Expression of FcεRIγ and NKG2C

Human memory-like NK cells are commonly defined by either a lack of FcεRIγ or gain of NKG2C expression. Here, we investigated the heterogeneity of human CD56dim NK cell subpopulations according to the expression of FcεRIγ and NKG2C in a large cohort (<i>n</i> = 127). Although the frequency of FcεRIγ- and NKG2C+ NK cells positively correlated, the FcεRIγ- and NKG2C+ NK cell populations did not exactly overlap. The FcεRIγ+NKG2C
