Abstract With advances in artificial intelligence (AI)-based algorithms, gesture recognition accuracy from sEMG signals has continued to increase. Spatiotemporal multichannel-sEMG signals substantially increase the quantity and reliability of the data for any type of study. Here, we report an array of bipolar stretchable sEMG electrodes with a self-attention-based graph neural network to recognize gestures with high accuracy. The array is designed to spatially cover the skeletal muscles to acqui

Relationship between skeletal muscle mass and lung function in Korean adults without clinically apparent lung disease
Chul‐Hyun Park, Youbin Yi, Jong Geol, Yong‐Taek Lee, Kyung Jae Yoon
SJR Q3MedicineOA

Previous studies have demonstrated that low skeletal muscle mass is related to decreased lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, there is little information about the relationship between skeletal muscle mass and lung function in asymptomatic adults without clinically apparent lung disease. This was a cross-sectional study of 240,562 Korean adults without known lung disease. All subjects underwent both pulmonary function test (PFT) and bioelectrical impedanc

Association between underweight and pulmonary function in 282,135 healthy adults: A cross-sectional study in Korean population
Jong Geol, Chul‐Hyun Park, Yong‐Taek Lee, Kyung Jae Yoon
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

In contrast to obesity, studies on the relationship between underweight and pulmonary function are still sparse. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the effect of being underweight on pulmonary function in a general population without apparent lung disease. A total of 282,135 retrospective cohort subjects between January 2012 and December 2014 in Korea were included. Using multivariate-adjusted analysis, the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and pulmonary function were

Sarcopenic obesity associated with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in age and sex comparison: a two-center study in South Korea
Chul‐Hyun Park, Jong Geol, Yong‐Taek Lee, Kyung Jae Yoon
SJR Q1BMJ OpenOA

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the association between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and sarcopenic obesity, and to determine age or sex differences underlying the relationship between hs-CRP and sarcopenic obesity. DESIGN: Observational study. PARTICIPANTS: The study included 237 838 participants whose body composition and hs-CRP were analysed at the two health promotion centres in South Korea. Participants were divided into four groups based on body composition: normal, obesity only, s

SJR Q1Journal of Cachexia Sarcopenia and MuscleOA

BACKGROUND: A gut-muscle axis through which the microbiome influences skeletal muscle has been hypothesized. However, sex-specific association between the characteristics of gut microbiota and skeletal muscle mass has not yet been reported. Herein, we performed sex-specific analyses of faecal microbiota composition for the skeletal muscle mass in a population-based cohort. METHODS: We collected faecal samples of 1052 middle-aged participants (621 men and 431 women) who attended health screenings

Sex Difference in Cutoff and Prevalence of Sarcopenia among 300,090 Urban Korean Population: Association with Metabolic Syndrome
Chul‐Hyun Park, Jong Geol, Yong‐Taek Lee, Kyung Jae Yoon
SJR Q2MedicinaOA

Background and Objectives: The study aimed to establish the threshold values and prevalence of sarcopenia and to investigate the association of sarcopenia with metabolic syndrome in an urban Korean population. Materials and Methods: The study included 300,090 adults who underwent anthropometric analyses by bioelectrical impedance analyzer. Sarcopenia was defined as: (1) class I, skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) within −1 to −2 standard deviations (SDs); (2) or class II, <−2 SD of SMI in a young

Immediate Effects of a Single Exercise on Behavior and Memory in the Early Period of Traumatic Brain Injury in Rats
Kyung Jae Yoon, Dae Yul Kim
SJR Q1Annals of Rehabilitation MedicineOA

A single session of low-intensity exercise in the early period of TBI improves behavioral performance without inducing cognitive deficits. However, high-intensity exercise can exacerbate cognitive function in the early period after TBI. Therefore, the optimal timing of rehabilitation and exercise intensity are crucial in behavior and memory recovery after TBI.

SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a promising technique that modulates neural networks. However, there were few studies evaluating the effects of rTMS in traumatic brain injury (TBI). Herein, we assessed the effectiveness of rTMS on behavioral recovery and metabolic changes using brain magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in a rat model of TBI. We also evaluated the safety of rTMS by measuring brain swelling with brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Twenty male Sprague-D

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract Osteoporosis and sarcopenia are substantially interrelated with shared cardiovascular risk factors. However, the relationship between osteosarcopenia and coronary artery disease is largely unexplored. We aimed to investigate the association between osteosarcopenia and coronary artery calcification (CAC) scores in asymptomatic adults. A total of 5969 asymptomatic adults without cardiovascular disease who underwent a health examination including estimation of CAC scores by cardiac tomogra

The prospective relationship between low muscle mass and thyroid hormones among 198 069 euthyroid men and women; comparing different definitions of low muscle mass
Young Sook Park, Yoosoo Chang, Yong‐Taek Lee, Ho Cheol Shin, Seungho Ryu, Kyung Jae Yoon
SJR Q2International Journal of Clinical PracticeOA

Among euthyroid men, FT4 had inverse dose-response association with new onset of LMM defined with weight (LMM-W) and BMI (LMM-B). Height squared LMM (LMM-H) had no apparent relationship with any thyroid hormones. Euthyroid women had no dose-responsive association between thyroid hormones and incident LMM.
