Young‐Joo Kim, Jae Ki Ahn, Kyung‐A Shin, Chul‐Hyun Kim, Yoonhee Lee, Kyoung‐Min Park
SJR Q2Journal of Clinical HypertensionOA

Runners with exercise-induced high blood pressure have recently been reported to exhibit higher levels of cardiac markers, vasoconstrictors, and inflammation. The authors attempted to identify correlations between exercise-related personal characteristics and the levels of biochemical/cardiac markers in marathon runners in this study. Forty healthy runners were enrolled. Blood samples were taken both before and after finishing a full marathon. The change in each cardiac/biochemical marker over t

Abstract Background Electrical cardioversion (ECV) is an effective method for restoring sinus rhythm after atrial fibrillation (AF). However, early recurrence of AF occurs in a significant number of patients after ECV. This study aimed to identify electrocardiographic (ECG) predictors of early AF recurrence after ECV. Methods A total of 272 patients with persistent AF undergoing successful ECV were consecutively enrolled in this study. We investigated clinical, echocardiographic, and ECG data. T

Electrical PR Interval Variation Predicts New Occurrence of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients With Frequent Premature Atrial Contractions
Kwang Jin Chun, Jin Kyung Hwang, Seung‐Jung Park, Young Keun On, June Soo Kim, Kyoung‐Min Park
SJR Q3MedicineOA

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with the autonomic nervous system (ANS), and fluctuation of autonomic tone is more prominent in patients with AF. As autonomic tone affects the heart rate (HR), and there is an inverse relationship between HR and PR interval, PR interval variation could be greater in patients with AF than in those without AF. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between PR interval variation and new-onset AF in patients with frequent PACs.We retrospe

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a cardiac disease associated with a high incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF). Recent studies have suggested that interventricular septum thickness may influence the risk stratification of patients with AF. We evaluated the effects of septal hypertrophy on morbidity and mortality in patients with HCM. Patients were followed for a median of 6.1 years and were divided into two groups according to the extent of septal hypertrophy. A total of 1,360 HCM patients

Background We hypothesized that analysis of serial ECGs could predict new‐onset atrial fibrillation (AF) more accurately than analysis of a single ECG by detecting the subtle cardiac remodeling that occurs immediately before AF occurrence. Our aim in this study was to compare the performance of 2 types of machine learning (ML) algorithms. Methods and Results Standard 12‐lead ECGs of patients selected by cardiologists between January 2010 and May 2021 were used for ML model development. Two ML mo

SJR Q3MedicineOA

Atrial tachyarrhythmia is a well-known long-term complication of atrial septal defect (ASD) in adults, even after successful trans-catheter closure. However, the risk factors for early-onset atrial tachyarrhythmia after trans-catheter closure remain unclear. This retrospective study enrolled adults with secundum ASD undergoing trans-catheter closure from January 2000 to March 2014. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of patients and assessed risk factors for new-onset atrial tachyarrhythmia

Possible Mechanisms for Adverse Cardiac Events Caused by Exercise-Induced Hypertension in Long-Distance Middle-Aged Runners: A Review
Young‐Joo Kim, Kyoung‐Min Park
SJR Q1Journal of Clinical MedicineOA

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is rare among athletes. However, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the leading cause of SCD among those <35 years of age. Meanwhile, coronary artery disease (CAD) is the primary SCD cause among those ≥35 years of age. CAD-induced plaque ruptures are believed to be a significant cause of cardiovascular diseases in middle-aged individuals who participate in extreme long-distance running activities such as marathons. A total of 1970 articles related to EIH were identified us

Exercise characteristics and incidence of abnormal electrocardiogram response in long‐distance runners with exercise‐induced hypertension
Young‐Joo Kim, So‐Eun Lee, Kyoung‐Min Park
SJR Q2Journal of Clinical HypertensionOA

While long-distance running has important health benefits, chronic elevation of blood pressure during exercise might induce cardiac events and sudden death. This study aimed to investigate characteristics of exercise and incidence of abnormal exercise electrocardiography findings in long-distance runners with exercise-induced hypertension. Long-distance runners (n = 606) underwent a questionnaire survey, history taking, and exercise stress testing, and they were classified into the non-exercise-

SJR Q3MedicineOA

INTRODUCTION: Mechanical circulatory support such as the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) has become widely implemented in the treatment of end-stage heart failure, whether as bridge-to-transplant or as destination therapy. The hemodynamic effects of arrhythmia on LVADs and its management are significant in determining the long-term outcome of these patients. Both atrial arrhythmia and ventricular arrhythmia are commonly seen after implantation of the device. There are no strict guidelines,
