일본인 작가, 오다 마코토(小田実 1932󰠏2007)는 반전, 반핵 운동가로 널리 알려져 있다. 본 논문은 1997년 가와바타 야스나리 문학상 수상작으로 유명한 오다마고토의 단편 소설 「「アボジ」を踏む」 (아버지를 밟다)를 중심으로 在日제주인의 디아스포라 이슈를 재조명하였다. 이 작품은 오다 마코토와 그의 在日제주인 장인과의 관계를 감동있게 그려서 훈훈한 가족드라마로 널리 읽혀지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 지금까지 주목 받아온 블랙 코미디적 포장과 훈훈한 가족드라마의 휘장을 벗기고 이 작품을 보다 깊이 들여다보고 분석하여 그 표면적 훈훈함 속에 보다 심각하고 심오한 문제의식을 확인하였다. 특히 주인공인 과묵한 아버지가 사후에 고향인 제주에 묻히는 과정은 식민역사의 상흔을 담아내고 있다.

본 논문은 식민지 조선에서 유년기를 보낸 일본인 작가 나카지마 아츠시([中島敦], 1909~1942)의 작품 중 경성을 주제로 한 단편 소설 3편을 중심으로 일본인과 조선인의 시각에 따라 경험되는 식민도시를 가시적인 질서(regime of visibility)라는 각도에서 분석하였다. 나카지마의 작품에 나타난 경성은 식민지의 저주받고 소외된 인물들은 소설의 시야로 편입되어 시각적으로 두드러지게 묘사되는 반면, 식민제도에 편승하거나 동화될 가능성을 가지고 있는 조선인들은 결국 가시적인 질서(regime of visibility)에서 밀려난다. 본 논문은 이른바 ‘식민지 접촉지대(colonial contact zones)’나 ‘친밀함의 영역(domains of intimacy)’안에서 식민권력관계의 작동실태를 분석하여 서구의 식민지 이론들이 간과한 심리적 문제들을 살펴보았다.
