15BACKGROUND: Bcl-2 is positively regulated by hormonal receptor pathways in breast cancer. A study was conducted to assess the prognostic significances of clinico-pathologic variables and of ER, PR, p53, c-erbB2, bcl-2, or Ki-67 as markers of relapse in breast cancer patients who had received the identical adjuvant therapy at a single institution. METHODS: A cohort of 151 curatively resected stage III breast cancer patients (M:F = 3:148, median age 46 years) who had 4 or more positive lymph nodes
Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) is a molecular chaperone required for the stability of key regulators of cell survival and is an emerging target of cancer therapy. NVP-AUY922, a novel and potent inhibitor of HSP90, was evaluated against gastric cancer cell lines. NVP-AUY922 significantly inhibited the proliferation of all tested gastric cancer cell lines with 50% inhibitory concentration in the range of 2-40 nM and potently induced the degradation of growth factor receptors and other client protei
PURPOSE: To evaluate response and survival for platinum-based combination chemotherapy in chemonaive patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) according to pretreatment standardized uptake values (SUV) by fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Patients with advanced NSCLC who had not previously received chemotherapy were eligible. Response rates and survivals were analyzed according to maximal SUVs [low (<or=7.5) versus high (>7.5), where 7.5 was the median
Abstract Purpose: This study investigated the efficacy and safety of avelumab, an anti-programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibody, in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma previously treated with sorafenib (NCT03389126). Patients and Methods: This is a single-arm, single center, phase II trial. Patients with Child-Pugh A score who had at least one measurable lesion were enrolled. Intravenous avelumab 10 mg/kg every 2 weeks was given until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. T
ABSTRACT Current diagnosis of bone metastasis (BM) in breast cancer relies on structural changes of bone that occur only in the advanced stage. A sensitive biomarker for detecting early progression of bone metastasis is urgently required. We performed clinical and preclinical studies to investigate diagnostic value of circulating osteocalcin-positive cells (cOC) in breast cancer bone metastasis. Metastatic breast cancer patients (n = 92) with or without bone metastasis (ie, BM+ or BM–) were enro
Breast cancer (BC) in patients with germline mutations of BRCA1/BRCA2 are associated with benefit from drugs targeting DNA damage response (DDR), but they account for only 5-7% of overall breast cancer. To define the characteristics of these tumors and also to identify tumors without BRCA mutation but with homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) is clinically relevant. To define characteristic features of HRD tumors and analyze the correlations between BRCA1/BRCA2 and BC subtypes, we analyzed
BACKGROUND: The association of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations with the response to conventional cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents in non-small-cell lung cancer patients has not been investigated. We retrospectively analyzed the associations between response to chemotherapy and molecular markers associated with gefitinib responsiveness including EGFR mutations. METHODS: EGFR (exons 18, 19 and 21) and K-ras mutations (exon 2) were studied by direct sequencing and p-Erk and p-Akt
GEM-E for pancreatic cancer is not more effective than GEM in a real-world setting, and it does not provide reasonable cost-effectiveness over GEM.
BACKGROUND: Immune cells in the tumour microenvironment play an essential role in tumorigenesis. This study aimed to evaluate the immunoregulatory protein expression of breast cancer and reveal their prognostic role. METHODS: Expression of 10 immune markers (PD-1/PD-L1/PD-L2/IDO/TIM-3/OX40/OX40L/B7-H2/ B7-H3/B7-H4) with known/possible clinical relevance was identified in stromal tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes or tumour tissue of stage I-III breast cancer patients. RESULTS: A total of 392 patien
Obesity or higher body mass index was not significantly associated with pathologic complete response and survival in Korean patients with breast cancer who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Our results suggest that the prognostic impact of body mass index is different from that of Western patients.
