지명국 교수의 연구실은 허블 우주망원경을 활용한 천체물리학 및 은하단의 약한 렌즈 효과 분석을 중심으로 활동하고 있습니다. 특히, 고해상도 이미징 기반의 PSF(빛점 함수) 보정 기법과 약한 렌즈를 통한 암흑물질 분포 추정에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 은하단의 질량 분포와 구조적 특성에 대한 정밀 분석을 수행하고 있습니다. 이는 우주의 대규조직 구조와 암흑물질의 성질을 규명하는 데 기여하고 있습니다.

We present a weak-lensing analysis of the z similar or equal to 1.4 galaxy cluster XMMU J2235.3-2557, based on deep Advanced Camera for Surveys images. Despite the observational challenge set by the high redshift of the lens, we detect a substantial lensing signal at the greater than or similar to 8 sigma level. We present a Hubble Space Telescope/Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 weak-lensing study of A520, where a previous analysis of ground-based data suggested the presence of a dark mass concentration. We present Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) weak-lensing and Chandra X-ray analyses of MS 1054-0321 at z=0.83, the most distant and X-ray luminous cluster in the Einstein Extended Medium-Sensitivity Survey (EMSS). The high-resolution mass reconstruction through ACS weak-lensing reveals the complicated dark matter substructure in unprecedented detail, characterized by the three dominant mass clumps with the four or more minor satellite groups within the current ACS field.
