15Our study led to the detection of potentially druggable mutations in esophageal SCC which may guide novel therapies in small subsets of esophageal cancer patients.
BACKGROUND: Cancer cachexia (CC) is a multifactorial process characterized by progressive weight loss, muscle mass, and fat tissue wasting, which adversely affects the quality of life and survival of patients with advanced stages of cancer. CC has a complex and multifactorial pathophysiology, and there is no established standard treatment. Therefore, it is often irreversible and a single treatment modality is unlikely to suppress its progression. We are conducting a randomized trial to investiga
BACKGROUND/AIM: We analyzed the efficacy and toxicity profile of sunitinib according to single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and Kinase insert domain receptor (KDR). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We examined eight known SNPs of VEGFA and five SNPs of KDR among patients with gastric or biliary tract cancer who were treated with sunitinib. We retrospectively assessed clinical outcomes and their relationships to these SNPs. RESULTS: A total of 63 pat
The application of MDT care is a rapidly growing trend in clinical oncology, and shows high patient satisfaction. Further research is needed to determine which types of cancer patients could benefit most from MDT, and to enable MDT care to operate more efficiently so that it may expand successfully throughout Korea.
Pembrolizumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) against the programmed death-1 receptor. Herein, we introduce a rare adverse effect during using pembrolizumab. We present the case of an 80-year-old man with biopsy-proven unresectable double primary squamous cell carcinoma and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung. After using pembrolizumab for 10 months, he complained of muscle weakness of both upper and lower extremities. In a nerve conduction study, the repetitive nerve stimula
TBI could be used as an effective part of conditioning for ASCT in patients with mature T- and NK-cell lymphomas.
Background: Adjuvant chemotherapy can reduce recurrence rates by eradicating microscopic metastases which may persist after curative resection. However, the optimal time interval (TI) between the surgery and chemotherapy remains controversial. Objectives: This study investigated the optimal TI between surgery and chemotherapy. Design: A population-based cohort study using a nationwide claims database. Methods: The data were obtained from the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) of Kor
Rituximab is a human/murine chimeric anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody used to treat CD20-positive B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Although most of the adverse effects associated with rituximab are usually reversible and temporary infusion-related reactions, including fever, chills, flushing and skin reactions, there are several reports of pulmonary events after long-term administration of rituximab. We present a case of asymptomatic nodular organizing pneumonia occurring during rituximab-based
Physicians should consider acute pancreatitis as a differential diagnosis for patients complaining of abdominal pain while on lenvatinib, regardless of hyperamylasemia or hyperlipasemia. Systematic collection of data on acute pancreatitis development during lenvatinib treatment should be considered, and further research is warranted to identify the mechanism of acute pancreatitis associated with multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as lenvatinib.
Pulmonary manifestations of benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) usually include multiple well-defined, round, bilateral nodules. Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS) is a rare uterine tumor. A 70-year-old woman visited the clinic complaining of acute cough and dyspnea in April 2017. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed pneumothorax and multiple pulmonary nodules. She had a history of hysterectomy for uterine leiomyoma 23 years ago. Biopsy revealed that the pulmonary masses were con
Background: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is one of the most important issues associated with chemotherapy. The additional or synergistic effect of acupuncture on CINV remains controversial. Methods: Patients were randomized into either the group that received standard antiemetics with acupuncture (Arm A) or standard antiemetics only (Arm C). Acupuncture with manual stimulation was applied at eight predefined points and was started before the first cycle of chemotherapy on the
Abstract Abstract 2676 Purpose Akt is a serine/threonine kinase that plays a central role in cell proliferation and growth. To define clinical impact of Akt expression in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL), we investigated the expression of phospho-Akt(p-Akt) in DLBCL and analyzed clinical impact of p-Akt expression on patient survival. Methods We evaluated the p-Akt expression in 99 DLBCL patients using tissue microarray(TMA) technology. Results Positive p-Akt expression was observed in 15.2%
