15This study proposes a magnetically actuated microscaffold with the capability of targeted mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) delivery for articular cartilage regeneration. The microscaffold, as a 3D porous microbead, is divided into body and surface portions according to its materials and fabrication methods. The microscaffold body, which consists of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), is formed through water-in-oil-in-water emulsion templating, and its surface is coated with amine functionalized mag
Ursolic acid (UA) is pentacyclic triterpenoic acid that naturally occurs in many medicinal herbs and plants. In this study, we examined the possible suppressive effect of UA extracted from Oldenlandia diffusa on zymosan-induced acute inflammation in mice and complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritis in rats. UA treatment (per oral) dose-dependently (25-200 mg kg(-1)) suppressed zymosan-induced leucocyte migration and prostaglandin E2 (PGE(2)) production in the air pouch exudates. Since
Regenerating the periodontal ligament (PDL) is a crucial factor for periodontal tissue regeneration in the presence of traumatized and periodontally damaged teeth. Various methods have been applied for periodontal regeneration, including tissue substitutes, bioactive materials, and synthetic scaffolds. However, all of these treatments have had limited success in structural and functional periodontal tissue regeneration. To achieve the goal of complete periodontal regeneration, many studies have
Resin-based composite materials are commonly used for restorations, but their dimensional changes during the polymerization could cause various clinical problems. This study evaluated the influence of a base of different materials and thicknesses on the stress magnitude and distribution in a second maxillary premolar with an MOD resin composite restoration using three-dimensional finite element analysis. A sound tooth without cavity was considered as the control group (ST), and another group was
Late instar larvae of Cafius histrio (Sharp), C. mimulus (Sharp) and C. rufescens Sharp are described for the first time in Korea. Partial cytochrome oxidase II gene sequences (396 bp) of adults and larvae for each species were compared to confirm the conspecificity of the larvae and adults of each individual species. Diagnostic characters are provided for separation of the known species of Cafius Curtis in Korea and illustrations of diagnostic features are presented.
Late instars of 3 littoral Cafius Curtis species [Cafius fucicola Curtis, C. nauticus (Fairmaire), C. vestitus (Sharp)] are described for the first time by using sequences of mitochondrial gene. In total, 13 unknown larvae were collected in association with adults from the Nearctic and Palearctic regions. The partial cytochrome oxidase II (CO II) gene was sequenced from the unknown larvae and several identified adult specimens for adults-larvae association. The range of intraspecific p-distance
Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate intratubular crystal formation from the experimental material consisting of dicalcium silicate (C 2 S) and tricalcium silicate (C 3 S) with nano-scaled particle size. A total of twenty-four specimens were made by isolating 8 mm of the cervical part centered at the cementoenamel junction of extracted premolars. Twelve specimens were not treated and considered as control. The experimental material was applied to the other twelve specimens by brushing f
Late-instars of Bryothinusa koreana Ahn & Jeon are described for the first time based upon DNA sequence data of larvae and adults. Twelve larvae were collected on Geoje Island, Korea, in association with adults of B. koreana. The partial cytochrome oxidase II gene (410 bp) was sequenced from the larvae and from several identified adult Bryothinusa specimens, including B. koreana. The intraspecific p-distances of adult B. koreana were from 0 to 4.44%, and interspecific pairwise distances were 10.
A taxonomic study of the genus Cafius Curtis in Korea is presented. The world-wide genus Cafius containing 45 species is restricted to seacoasts. Five species are recognized, three of which are reported for the first time in Korea [C. algrum (Sharp), C. mimulus (Sharp), C. rufescens Sharp]. A key, descriptions, and drawings of diagnostic characters of known Korean Cafius species are presented.
Intratubular crystals formed from the experimental materials consisted of DCS and TCS and were resistant to acid. These crystals significantly reduced dentin permeability.
The late-instar larva of Phucobius simulator Sharp is described for the first time, being also the first larval description of the genus Phucobius Sharp. Nine unknown larvae were collected in association with adults of P. simulator from seashores of Korea and Japan. The unknown larvae were identified as P. simulator by DNA sequencing. Diagnostic characters of the species are provided, with illustrations.
Abstract The seashore aleocharine genus Salinamexus Moore and Legner is revised. Three species are recognized, one of which is described as new ( Salinamexus koreanus sp. nov. ). The genus Salinamexus and the species S. browni Moore and Legner and S. reticulatus (Moore and Legner) are redescribed. A key and illustrations of diagnostic features are provided.
