15Background: No study has yet assessed the effect of medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) on the patellofemoral joint according to postoperative alignment. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of MOWHTO on the patellofemoral joint according to postoperative alignment by comparing the cartilage status before and after surgery and assessing the clinical and radiological outcomes. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A total of 135 patients who underwent MOWHTO were retr
BACKGROUND: There has been no previous study regarding graft selection in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction for smoking patients. PURPOSE: To compare the clinical outcomes of ACL reconstruction between smokers and nonsmokers and to find an optimal graft in ACL reconstruction with regard to clinical outcomes for smoking patients. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2. METHODS: A total of 487 patients who underwent unilateral ACL reconstruction were retrospectively reviewe
PURPOSE: The present study aimed to compare 2- and 5-year outcomes of ACL reconstruction between patients with and without generalized joint laxity and to perform comparative evaluation between two types of grafts used for ACL reconstruction in patients with generalized joint laxity. METHODS: Two hundred and thirty-seven patients who underwent ACL reconstruction from 2001 to 2008 were included. Patients were classified into two groups according to the presence or the absence of generalized joint
BACKGROUND: No previous study has examined arthritic change after meniscectomy with regard to extrusion of the medial meniscus. PURPOSE: (1) To determine the factors related to preoperative meniscal extrusion; (2) to investigate the relationship between medial meniscal extrusion and postoperative outcomes of partial meniscectomy, and to identify a cutoff point of meniscal extrusion that contributes to arthritic change after partial meniscectomy in nonosteoarthritic knees. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort st
BACKGROUND: There have been no previous studies showing clinical outcomes according to treatment options of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury with mild grade 2 or less posterior translation (<7 mm) combined with posterolateral rotatory instability. PURPOSE: To compare the clinical outcomes of posterolateral corner (PLC) reconstruction with or without simultaneous PCL reconstruction in PCL injuries with mild posterior translation. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS:
BACKGROUND: There have been no clinical studies regarding the effect of decreased meniscal thickness on outcomes after meniscectomy. PURPOSE: To examine the postoperative outcomes of partial meniscectomy with or without horizontal resection compared with the outcomes of subtotal meniscectomy and to evaluate the influence of decreased thickness of the medial meniscus on outcomes after partial meniscectomy. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: A total of 312 patients who unde
There has been no previous study using three-dimensional (3D) measurement on femoral tunnel characteristics according to the combined influence of various flexion angles of knee and transverse drill angles in single-bundle ACL reconstruction with transportal technique. The purpose of this study was to determine optimal condition of knee flexion angle and transverse drill angle to create secure femoral tunnel in single-bundle ACL reconstruction with transportal technique considering tunnel length
Synovial plica is rarely diagnosed as cause of elbow pain. Impingemnt of posterolateral plicae in the radiocapitellar joint tends to be usually overlooked. The purpose of this study was to present outcomes of arthroscopic treatment in relatively large number of cases and propose reliable diagnostic test for posterolateral plicae of the radiocapitellar joint. From January 2000 to December 2010, 24 cases diagnosed with pathologic posterolateral radiocapitellar plica on arthroscopic finding were ret
PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to determine the change in the graft bending angles at the femoral and tibial tunnel aperture in single-bundle posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction. It was hypothesized that different knee flexion and different tunnel directions may affect changes of the femoral and tibial graft bending angle. METHODS: The right knees of 12 male subjects were scanned with a high-resolution computed tomography scanner at 4 different knee flexion angles (0°, 45°, 9
In performing medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy, it is recommended not to alter the posterior tibial slope. However, it remains unclear whether the osteotomy inclination angle affects the posterior tibial slope in the sagittal plane. This study aimed to verify how anterior or posterior osteotomy inclination angle affects the tendency of change in the posterior tibial slope and to conduct quantitative analysis of the extent to which the posterior tibial slope changes according to the degree
The posterior tibial slope of the tibiofemoral joint changes after medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO), but little is known about the effect of the sagittal osteotomy inclination angle on the change in the posterior tibial slope of the tibiofemoral joint. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the osteotomy inclination angle in the sagittal plane on changes in the posterior tibial slope after MOWHTO by comparing how anterior and posterior inclination affect the p
The extent to which resection of unstable leaf should be performed in horizontal cleavage meniscus tear has not yet been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of partial meniscectomy for horizontal cleavage tear of medial meniscus between complete resection of inferior leaf including the periphery up to the joint capsule and partial resection leaving stable peripheral torn meniscal tissue. A total of 126 patients who underwent partial meniscectomy for horizon
Background: The relationship between the lateral femoral anatomic structures and femoral tunnel outlet according to changes in knee flexion and transverse drill angle during femoral tunnel creation in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction remains unclear. Purpose: To investigate the relationships between the lateral femoral anatomic structures and femoral tunnel outlet according to various knee flexion and transverse drill angles and to determine appropriate angles at which to minimize
The purpose of this study was to compare preoperative variables and postoperative outcomes between flap tears with and without incarceration of inferiorly displaced fragments of medial meniscus and find distinct features of incarcerated flap tear of medial meniscus to improve preoperative diagnosis. 79 patients who underwent partial meniscectomy for flap tear of medial meniscus were classified into two groups: group U, usual flap tear without incarcerated fragment; group I, flap tear with incarc
