SJR Q2Anatomy & Cell Biology

Among medical education institutions worldwide, the time allotted for anatomy instruction has decreased without any reasonable time optimization suggestions. In addition, the utility of cadaver dissection has long been debated. Herein, we surveyed students' perceptions of anatomy education with respect to time and hands-on cadaver dissection, at Seoul National University College of Medicine. With the help of a questionnaire, we surveyed third- and fourth-year students at our institute who had co

Effect of porosity and phase composition in 3D printed calcium phosphate scaffolds on bone tissue regeneration in vivo
Naren Raja, Shi Huan Han, Minjoon Cho, Yeong‐Jin Choi, Yuan Jin, Honghyun Park, Jae Hyup Lee, Hui‐suk Yun
SJR Q1Materials & DesignOA

Highly porous calcium phosphate (CaP) scaffolds with multiple phases were fabricated through combination of material extrusion type 3D printing process, salt-leaching, and bone cement chemistry under physiological conditions. Scaffolds with nano-sized calcium deficient hydroxy apatite (CDHA) in the core and large crystals of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD or brushite) on the outer surface were fabricated by immersing the 3D ceramic scaffold in aqueous ‘cement solution’. In contrast to conve

Association between Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures and Age, Bone Mineral Density, and European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions in Korean Postmenopausal Women: A Nationwide Cross-sectional Observational Study
Minjoon Cho, Seoung-Hwan Moon, Jae Hyup Lee, Ji Ho Lee
SJR Q1Clinics in Orthopedic SurgeryOA

The prevalence of OVCFs in the thoracolumbar junction rapidly increases with old age and low BMD in Korean postmenopausal women. Femur and total hip BMD are more predictive of thoracolumbar junction fractures than lumbar spine BMD. Patients with radiologic OVCFs had a significantly lower quality of life than no OVCF group. Therefore, this study shows it is important to treat and prevent osteoporosis before an OVCF occurs.

Bong Young Kong, Minjoon Cho, Hwa Ryeong Lee, Young Eun Choi, Sae Hoon Kim
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports Medicine

BACKGROUND: High-grade partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (hPTRCTs) are frequently encountered in the shoulder. However, little information is available on the prevalence or timing of tear progression. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose was to prospectively evaluate the structural progression of hPTRCTs with a minimum follow-up of 1 year using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The hypothesis was that a substantial portion of hPTRCT patients would experience tear progression or evolution to a full

SJR Q1Clinics in Orthopedic SurgeryOA

Radial wedge osteotomy yielded excellent radiological and functional outcomes in advanced stages of Kienböck's disease and these results were comparable to those of Lichtman stage IIIA disease. This technique could be a useful alternative to salvage procedures in the treatment of Lichtman stage IIIB/IV Kienböck's disease without severe radiocarpal arthritis.

Bioactive magnesium-based whitlockite ceramic as bone cement additives for enhancing osseointegration and bone regeneration
QuanZhe Liu, J. H. Kim, Minjoon Cho, Su Hyeon Kim, Bin Xu, Sivashanmugam Amirthalingam, Nathaniel S. Hwang, Jae Hyup Lee
SJR Q1Materials & DesignOA

PMMA bone cement is commonly used in the field of orthopedics as a filling material. However, due to the lack of biological activity and high elastic modulus, its application scope and efficacy are greatly limited, such as in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures(OVCF). For this reason, new functional bone cement was synthesized and designed to address and improve those shortcomings. In this study, Tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) and Whitlockite (WH) were incorporated with

Effect of Whitlockite as a new bone substitute for bone formation in spinal fusion and ectopic ossification animal model
Yuan Jin, Guang-Bin Zheng, Minjoon Cho, Jae Hyup Lee
SJR Q1Biomaterials ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: Bone substrates like hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate have been widely used for promoting spinal fusion and reducing the complications caused by autograft. Whitlockite has been reported to promote better bone formation in rat calvaria models compare with them, but no study investigated its effect on spinal fusion yet. Also, the higher osteoinductivity of whitlockite raised concern of ectopic ossification, which was a complication of spinal fusion surgery that should be avoided

Taehoon Kang, Sung Taek Chung, In-Wook Seo, Minjoon Cho, Jae Hyup Lee
SJR Q1Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: Intraoperative endplate injury (IEI) is a type of fracture and a potential complication during lumbar interbody fusion (LIF). Osteoporosis diagnosed by bone mineral density (BMD) is a well-known risk factor for fracture itself and IEI also. The bone turnover markers (BTMs) are parameters of bone qualities and have some correlations with fractures, but there is no study about the BTMs and intraoperative fractures especially IEI. This study aims to identify the correlation between IEI
