Highly metastatic and chemotherapy-resistant properties of malignant melanomas stand as challenging barriers to successful treatment; yet, the mechanisms responsible for their aggressive characteristics are not fully defined. We show that a distinct population expressing CD133 (Prominin-1), which is highly enriched after administration of a chemotherapeutic drug, dacarbazine, has enhanced metastatic potential in vivo. CD133(+) tumor cells are located close to tumor-associated lymphatic vessels i

The Angiopoietin-2 and TIE Pathway as a Therapeutic Target for Enhancing Antiangiogenic Therapy and Immunotherapy in Patients with Advanced Cancer
Alessandra Leong, Minah Kim
SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

Despite significant advances made in cancer treatment, the development of therapeutic resistance to anticancer drugs represents a major clinical problem that limits treatment efficacy for cancer patients. Herein, we focus on the response and resistance to current antiangiogenic drugs and immunotherapies and describe potential strategies for improved treatment outcomes. Antiangiogenic treatments that mainly target vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling have shown efficacy in many typ

The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine

AIM: To examine the reliability of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) tongue inspection by evaluation of inter- and intrapractitioner agreement levels for specific tongue characteristics, achieved by a group of TCM practitioners. METHOD: Ten (10) realistic tongue slides and a set of questionnaires were used to examine the agreement levels among 30 TCM practitioners in two data collection sessions. Statistical analysis involved descriptive statistics, predominantly percentage frequency agreement

Abstract Oncolytic viruses pose many questions in their use in cancer therapy. In this study, we assessed the potential of mpJX-594 (mouse-prototype JX-594), a replication-competent vaccinia virus administered by intravenous injection, to target the tumor vasculature, produce immune activation and tumor cell killing more widespread than the infection, and suppress invasion and metastasis. These actions were examined in RIP-Tag2 transgenic mice with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors that developed

Although internet gaming disorder (IGD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) represent opposite ends of the impulsivity and compulsivity dimensions, the two disorders share common neurocognitive deficits in response inhibition. However, the similarities and differences in neurophysiological features of altered response inhibition between IGD and OCD have not been investigated sufficiently. In total, 27 patients with IGD, 24 patients with OCD, and 26 healthy control (HC) subjects participated

These results suggest that MMN is a putative predictor of prognosis regardless of the transition to psychotic disorder in subjects at CHR. Early prognosis prediction and the provision of appropriate interventions based on the initial CHR status might be aided using MMN.

OBJECTIVES: When comparing the scores from Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Study (CAHPS) surveys across health plans, it is important to adjust for patient characteristics (casemix) that are not under the control of the plan but that affect plan ratings. Our goal was to develop casemix models for pediatric CAHPS surveys. METHODS: We analyzed responses to the pediatric CAHPS 2.0 surveys from 50,583 Medicaid beneficiaries and 43,579 persons with private health insurance. We identified patient
