15Cancer is a complex disease involving multiple genomic alterations that disrupt the dynamic response of signaling networks. The heterogeneous nature of cancer, which results in highly variable drug response, is a major obstacle to developing effective cancer therapy. Previous studies of cancer therapeutic response mostly focus on static analysis of genome-wide alterations, thus they are unable to unravel the dynamic, network-specific origin of variation. Here we present a network dynamics-based
Many clinical trials for cancer precision medicine have yielded unsatisfactory results due to challenges such as drug resistance and low efficacy. Drug resistance is often caused by the complex compensatory regulation within the biomolecular network in a cancer cell. Recently, systems biological studies have modeled and simulated such complex networks to unravel the hidden mechanisms of drug resistance and identify promising new drug targets or combinatorial or sequential treatments for overcomi
This study analyzes the thermodynamic, economic, and regulatory aspects of boil-off hydrogen (BOH) in liquid hydrogen (LH2) carriers that can be re-liquefied using a proposed re-liquefaction system or used as fuel in a fuel cell stack. Five LH2 carriers sailing between two designated ports are considered in a case study. The specific energy consumption of the proposed re-liquefaction system varies from 8.22 to 10.80 kWh/kg as the re-liquefaction-to-generation fraction (R/G fraction) is varied. T
It is difficult for developers, researchers, and consumers to compare results among emerging wearable technology without using a uniform set of standards. This study evaluated the accuracy of commercially available wearable technology heart rate (HR) monitors using the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) standards. Participants (N = 23) simultaneously wore a Polar chest strap (criterion measure), Jabra Elite earbuds, Scosche Rhythm 24 armband, Apple Watch 4, and Garmin Forerunner 735 XT during
The response variation to anti-cancer drugs originates from complex intracellular network dynamics of cancer. Such dynamic networks present challenges to determining optimal drug targets and stratifying cancer patients for precision medicine, although several cancer genome studies provided insights into the molecular characteristics of cancer. Here, we introduce a network dynamics-based approach based on attractor landscape analysis to evaluate the therapeutic window of a drug from cancer signal
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been continuously strengthening environmental regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships, which has led to increased attention on hybrid ship propulsion systems combining hydrogen fuel cells and batteries. This study analyzes the energy management strategy of a hybrid ship propulsion system in relation to changes in the battery system’s energy capacity. The target vessel was set as a 500 kW-class ferry operating for 24 h, and the m
• Comparative risk assessment for gaseous and liquid hydrogen fuel gas supply systems. • Gaseous hydrogen requires enhanced protection against high-pressure leaks. • Liquid hydrogen emphasizes management of thermal contraction and pipe damage risks. • Provides safety guidelines for eco-friendly hydrogen adoption in maritime industry. This study compares qualitative risk analyses of compressed hydrogen gas (GH 2 ) and liquid hydrogen (LH 2 ) fuel gas supply systems (FGSSs) for eco-friendly marine
In this paper, temperature distribution of GIS that filled with eco-friendly gas is predicted through numerical analysis when the rated current flows. Temperature rise is predicted using electromagnetic-thermal coupling analysis. The heat sources causing the temperature rise are joule losses in the main conductor during the flow of rated current, and eddy current losses of enclosure caused by the magnetic flux interlinkage created by the rated current and are calculated by electromagnetic analys
