The dry reforming of methane (DRM), i.e., the reaction of methane and CO 2 to form a synthesis gas, converts two major greenhouse gases into a useful chemical feedstock. In this work, we probe the effect and role of Fe in bimetallic NiFe dry reforming catalysts. To this end, monometallic Ni, Fe, and bimetallic Ni-Fe catalysts supported on a Mg x Al y O z matrix derived via a hydrotalcite-like precursor were synthesized. Importantly, the textural features of the catalysts, i.e., the specific surf

SJR Q1Advanced MaterialsOA

Smart systems are those that display autonomous or collaborative functionalities, and include the ability to sense multiple inputs, to respond with appropriate operations, and to control a given situation. In certain circumstances, it is also of great interest to retain flexible, stretchable, portable, wearable, and/or implantable attributes in smart electronic systems. Among the promising candidate smart materials, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibit excellent electrical and mechanical properties,

Integrated CO2 Capture and Conversion as an Efficient Process for Fuels from Greenhouse Gases

SJR Q1ACS Catalysis

To mitigate climate change, the reduction of anthropogenic CO2 emissions is of paramount importance. CO2 capture and storage has been identified as a promising short- to midterm solution, yet the underground storage of CO2 faces often severe public resistance. In this regard, the conversion of the CO2 captured into useful chemicals or fuels is an attractive alternative. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a process that directly integrates CO2 utilization into CO2 capture allowing fo

Catalytic Enantioselective Fluorination and Amination of β-Keto Phosphonates Catalyzed by Chiral Palladium Complexes
Sung Min Kim, Hye Ran Kim, Dae Young Kim
SJR Q1Organic Letters

[reaction: see text] The catalytic enantioselective fluorination and amination of beta-keto phosphonates catalyzed by chiral palladium complexes is described. Treatment of beta-keto phosphonates with N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) as electrophilic fluorinating reagent and diethyl azodicarboxylate (DEAD) as electrophilic amination reagent under mild reaction conditions afforded the corresponding alpha-substituted beta-keto phosphonates in moderate to excellent yields with excellent enantiomeri

Transparent and Flexible Graphene Charge-Trap Memory

SJR Q1ACS Nano

A transparent and flexible graphene charge-trap memory (GCTM) composed of a single-layer graphene channel and a 3-dimensional gate stack was fabricated on a polyethylene naphtalate substrate below eutectic temperatures (~110 °C). The GCTM exhibits memory functionality of ~8.6 V memory window and 30% data retention per 10 years, while maintaining ~80% of transparency in the visible wavelength. Under both tensile and compressive stress, the GCTM shows minimal effect on the program/erase states and

In Situ XRD and Dynamic Nuclear Polarization Surface Enhanced NMR Spectroscopy Unravel the Deactivation Mechanism of CaO-Based, Ca3Al2O6-Stabilized CO2 Sorbents

CaO is an effective high temperature CO 2 sorbent that, however, suffers from a loss of its CO 2 absorption capacity upon cycling due to sintering. The cyclic CO 2 uptake of CaO-based sorbents is improved by Ca 3 Al 2 O 6 as a structural stabilizer. Nonetheless, the initially rather stable CO 2 uptake of Ca 3 Al 2 O 6 -stabilized CaO yet starts to decay after around 10 cycles of CO 2 capture and sorbent regeneration, albeit at a significantly reduced rate compared to the unmodified reference mat

The strong peristaltic contraction of the stomach facilitates mixing and emptying of ingested food, which occurs rhythmically at approximately 3 cycles/min (cpm) in humans. Generally, most patients with gastroparesis show gastric electrical dysrhythmia that is disrupted electrical signals controlling gastric contractions. For treatment of gastric electrical dysrhythmia, in vivo electrical impulses to the stomach via an implanted gastric stimulator have been known to restore these gastric deforma

Evaluation of Plantar Fasciitis by Three-phase Bone Scintigraphy

SJR Q2Clinical Nuclear Medicine

Fifteen patients complaining of chronic heel pain underwent three-phase Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy. Ten patients demonstrated abnormal scan findings consistent with plantar fasciitis (PF) and had responded to conventional therapy. Two patients were found to have calcaneal stress fractures, and one patient demonstrated a calcaneal spur that required no treatment. The remaining two patients had normal scans and did not appear clinically to have PF. The three-phase bone scan is therefore very use

Inverse Opal-Like, Ca3Al2O6-Stabilized, CaO-Based CO2 Sorbent: Stabilization of a Highly Porous Structure To Improve Its Cyclic CO2 Uptake
Sung Min Kim, Andaç Armutlulu, Agnieszka Kierzkowska, Christoph R. Müller
SJR Q1ACS Applied Energy MaterialsOA

Effective CO2 sorbents were manufactured utilizing inverse opal (IO)-like, CaO-based structures enabled by carbon nanosphere templates. To stabilize the structures against sintering, Ca3Al2O6 was incorporated via three different routes (i.e., one-pot synthesis, impregnation, and atomic layer deposition (ALD)). The sorbents realized through one-pot and ALD-assisted synthesis methods exhibited a significantly enhanced CO2 uptake when compared to the benchmark limestone and the sorbent realized by

Sustainable Production of Syngas from Biomass‐Derived Glycerol by Steam Reforming over Highly Stable Ni/SiC
Sung Min Kim, Seong Ihl Woo
SJR Q1ChemSusChem

The production of syngas was investigated by steam reforming glycerol over Ni/Al(2)O(3), Ni/CeO(2), and Ni/SiC (which have acidic, basic, and neutral properties) at temperatures below 773 K. The complete and stable conversion of glycerol with a yield (higher than 90 %) of gaseous products (mainly syngas) was achieved over Ni/SiC during a 60 h reaction, whereas the conversion of glycerol continually decreases over Ni/Al(2)O(3) (by 49.8 %) and Ni/CeO(2) (by 77.1 %). The deactivation of Ni/Al(2)O(3

The Role of Nuclear Medicine in the Evaluation of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type I
Charles Intenzo, Sung Min Kim, David M. Capuzzi
SJR Q2Clinical Nuclear Medicine

Chronic pain resulting from complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS I), formerly referred to as the reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS), is a diagnostic challenge to the clinician. It involves multiple organ systems, namely peripheral as well as central nervous, vascular, soft tissue, and skeletal. It usually develops as a consequence of trauma, without nerve injury. Signs and symptoms vary depending on the time since the initiating event, and there is no confirmatory histopathologi
