15BACKGROUND: Lenvatinib in combination with pembrolizumab or everolimus has activity against advanced renal cell carcinoma. The efficacy of these regimens as compared with that of sunitinib is unclear. METHODS: In this phase 3 trial, we randomly assigned (in a 1:1:1 ratio) patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma and no previous systemic therapy to receive lenvatinib (20 mg orally once daily) plus pembrolizumab (200 mg intravenously once every 3 weeks), lenvatinib (18 mg orally once daily) plu
PURPOSE: There is currently no reliable biomarker to predict who would benefit from anti-PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. We comprehensively analyzed the immunogenomic properties in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) according to the classification of tumor into four groups based on PD-L1 status and tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte recruitment (TIL), a combination that has been suggested to be a theoretically reliable biomarker of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: The RNA expression levels of PD-L
Abstract Lessons Learned Pazopanib shows a modest efficacy in metastatic alveolar soft part sarcoma. Clinical outcomes were comparable to those in previous studies using antiangiogenic drugs. Further prospective studies evaluating the benefit of pazopanib in alveolar soft part sarcoma with a larger sample are warranted to validate results. Background Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare mesenchymal malignant tumor characterized by an unbalanced translocation, t(X;17)(p11.2;q25), which lea
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the breast is a very rare and indolent tumor with a favorable prognosis, despite its triple-negative status. Due to its rarity, there has been no consensus regarding treatments, and treatment guidelines have not been established. Here, we report on six patients with ACC of the breast. All of the patients initially presented with localized disease and no axillary lymph node metastases. Although some of our patients developed local recurrence or distant metastases
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have reported that pretreatment thrombocytosis is associated with poor outcomes in several cancer types. This study was designed to evaluate the prognostic significance of preoperative thrombocytosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who undergo surgery. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 199 patients who underwent R0 resection for NSCLC between May 2003 and July 2006 at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Seongnam, Korea. R
Irinotecan and cisplatin combination chemotherapy showed modest anti-tumour activity and manageable toxicity for patients with metastatic, unresectable esophageal cancer.
BACKGROUND: Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is rare with a poor outcome and is resistant to conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy. The efficacy and safety of durvalumab and tremelimumab for treating recurrent or metastatic PSCs were assessed by a nonrandomized, open-label, phase II study. METHODS: A total of 18 patients with recurrent or metastatic PSC received 1500 mg of durvalumab and 75 mg of tremelimumab every four weeks, followed by 750 mg of durvalumab every two weeks until the disease

PURPOSE: There have been needs to improve the sensitivity of liquid biopsy. This report aims to report the analytical and clinical validation of a next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) assay. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Analytical validation was conducted in vitro by evaluating the limit of detection (LOD), precision, and specificity for various genomic aberrations. The real-world performance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was assessed by comparing the results of
Preclinical and clinical studies have suggested that expression of ribonucleotide reductase regulatory subunit M1 (RRM1) and excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (ERCC1) is associated with resistance to gemcitabine and cisplatin, respectively. We evaluated the significance of RRM1 and ERCC1 expression to predict tumor response to gemcitabine plus platinum chemotherapy (GP) and survival in advanced UC. We retrospectively collected tumor samples and reviewed clinical data of 53 patients w

PURPOSE: In patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) improve response rate and survival. However, most patients eventually develop resistance. This study aimed to identify the role of CD73 in EGFR-mutant NSCLC and explore whether CD73 inhibition may serve as a therapeutic strategy in NSCLC patients with acquired resistance to EGFR-TKIs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated the prognostic role of CD73 ex
