7ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) is a general‐purpose technology with wide‐ranging implications for sustainable development; yet, little is known about how its innovation trajectories have aligned with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study examines the sustainability orientation of AI innovation using patents, which serve as early indicators of technological trajectories. A dataset of 180,273 AI patents granted in the United States and China between 2020 a
Abstract This study examines the acceptance of four AI-assisted care technologies among formal care providers using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The Korean government has launched initiatives to develop and deploy care technologies to support independent living among older adults living alone. However, limited research has explored the intention of formal care providers—including care assistants, social workers, and visiting nurses—to adopt these technologies i
Background While older adults’ social media use has been widely studied for its instrumental benefits, such as accessing health information or maintaining family ties, research has largely focused on identity-based platforms that mirror offline social networks, leaving pseudonymous, interest-driven environments such as Reddit underexplored. Although older adults actively participate in these spaces to share personal narratives and engage beyond their existing social roles, the literature has yet
Abstract Smart home technology is increasingly employed to enhance independence, participation, and healthcare for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Given its close integration into daily life, ethical concerns surrounding these technologies have been widely discussed. However, limited research has examined how ethical considerations are applied in empirical studies and how existing conceptual models inform their use. This scoping review provides a comprehensive analysis of the int
Abstract The rapid rise of conversational AI agents, exemplified by ChatGPT, has shaped daily life from health information seeking to emotional support. While offering opportunities and challenges for aging populations, most designs remain youth-centric. This systematic review critically assesses existing knowledge on usability evaluation of conversational AI agents for older adults. Following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, four major databases (Web of Science, Scopus, ACM Digital Library, and PubMe
Abstract Generative artificial intelligence, particularly large language models (LLMs), has become a powerful tool for navigating information, potentially shaping users’ ways of thinking and influencing their perceptions of different social groups. While a growing body of research has examined the presence of racism and sexism in LLM-generated content, the issue of ageism remains relatively underexplored. This study investigates age-related stereotypes in texts generated by LLMs utilizing natura
Abstract Demand-responsive transport (DRT) services effectively address mobility needs in rural and low-density areas where public transportation options are limited. In South Korea, Shucle, a DRT service, offers shared rides within designated zones, dynamically adjusting routes based on demand. However, as these services rely on smartphone apps, older adults—who often constitute the majority of residents in such areas—face challenges in accessing them due to limited digital literacy. This inter
