15Nasotracheal intubation using a video laryngoscope can be successfully performed in a hemodynamically stable state by using the optimal remifentanil effect-site concentration (<i>Ce50</i> , 3.22 ng/ml; <i>Ce95</i> , 4.25 ng/ml).
Intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV PCA; IVA) is the most widely used method for postoperative pain management. An appropriate IVA regimen is required, depending on the expected intensity of pain after surgery. This study expected that a decrease in the second prescription rate of IVA after elective cesarean section (CS) would help establish an appropriate regimen for the initial IVA. We retrospectively reviewed the records of 632 patients who were prescribed IVA after CS. We classified
BACKGROUND: When early-stage lung cancer is diagnosed, the recommended treatment is anatomical resection using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) or robotic lobectomy. However, nonanatomical resection, known as wedge resection (WR), which is performed to diagnose pulmonary nodules, can be problematic for clinicians performing VATS or robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of VATS WR using multiplanar computed tomo
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of uterine artery embolization (UAE) with gelatin sponge particles for symptomatic focal and diffuse adenomyosis. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted between January 2014 and December 2019. All women underwent UAE for symptomatic adenomyosis without leiomyomas. Gelatin sponge particles were used in all cases. Patients were assessed for effectiveness of symptom control, changes in uterine volume, and degree of tumor necrosis on
BACKGROUND: Recent studies suggest that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection increases the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and mortality. Consequently, patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection undergoing emergency surgery are more vulnerable to PPCs, yet few studies have evaluated PPCs in these patients. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted between January 2022 and February 2023 on the medical records of patients infected with SARS
These findings suggest that the expression of certain T cell co-stimulatory factors, such as CD28 and CD 137, and co-inhibitory factors, such as CTLA4 and PD-L1 are associated with prognosis of glioblastoma patients.
OBJECTIVE: Administering opioids via intravenous patient-controlled analgesia is a prevalent approach for managing postoperative pain. Nevertheless, due to concerns about opioid-related side effects and the potential for opioid tolerance, there is a growing emphasis on adopting opioid-sparing techniques for postoperative pain management. We aimed to investigate the effect of adding a basal rate infusion in fentanyl-based IVA following a cesarean section (CS). METHOD: Forty-eight patients, who re
The mean position of the IRJ was estimated to be 3.4 VBUs below the carina on supine CXR. This may be useful if applied to the assessment of ECMO cannula tip positions.
BACKGROUND: Several factors contribute to post-anesthetic hepatic dysfunction, including a decrease in oxygen supply to the liver, direct physical compression of the liver, viral hepatitis, blood transfusions, preexisting hepatic dysfunction, and the use of hepatotoxic drugs. Diagnosing volatile anesthetic drug-induced liver injury (VA-DILI) involves excluding these causes. CASE: The patient underwent total mastectomy under anesthesia using sevoflurane. He had diabetes, and no abnormal results w
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a condition caused by spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage, resulting in orthostatic headache as the main symptom, but other symptoms such as memory loss, nausea, and tinnitus may also be present. Various imaging techniques are used to diagnose SIH, with magnetic resonance imaging myelography being an important tool for detecting the leakage site of CSF. Conservative treatments including hydration, bed rest, and intravenous caffeine have bee
ABSTRACT Background Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) increase surgical morbidity and mortality. While the predictive value of preoperative pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in noncardiac surgery remains unclear, we evaluated whether abnormal PFT patterns and spirometric indices are independently associated with PPCs. Methods We retrospectively analyzed adult patients undergoing noncardiac surgery under general or spinal anesthesia between June and November 2022 with preoperative spirom
Background: Patients undergoing an interventional radiology procedure report some degree of anxiety. Therefore, procedure-related anxiety needs to be managed. The aim of our study was to investigate patient satisfaction with monitored anesthesia care (MAC) for uterine artery embolization (UAE)-related procedural anxiety in symptomatic uterine fibroids or adenomyosis. Methods: Between May 2021 and June 2022, 36 patients with symptomatic fibroids or adenomyosis underwent UAE with MAC. Follow-up ev
Monitored anesthesia care (MAC) has been used as a specific anesthesia service for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures performed under local anesthesia along with sedation and analgesia. Procedures such as trans arterial chemoembolization (TACE) or uterine artery embolization (UAE) performed in interventional radiology are typically accompanied by post-embolization syndrome (PES). While in TACE for hepatocellular carcinoma treatment, the severity of PES tends to be milder due to the liver’s dua
