15Despite a higher rate of local recurrence, RFA was found to be as effective as surgical resection for the treatment of single small HCC in patients with well-preserved liver function, in terms of the incidence of remote recurrence and the patients' likelihood of achieving overall and/or recurrence-free survival.
We investigated the overall and site-specific prevalence of pre-S mutations and its clinical significance in patients with genotype C hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Three hundred subjects were included: 50 asymptomatic carriers (AC), 87 chronic hepatitis (CH), 91 liver cirrhosis (LC) and 72 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Pre-S mutations were determined by nucleotide sequence analysis. Possible correlations between pre-S mutations and clinical/virological parameters were examined. Pre-S muta
We assessed the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in those outside of current treatment recommendations and risk factors associated with HCC development. A multi-centre, retrospective cohort of 3624 patients who were monitored without antiviral treatment was analysed. Incident HCC risk according to the Asian Pacific Association for the study of the Liver (APASL), the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EAS
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. However, the clinical features of young HCC patients have not been fully studied. In the present study, we investigated the prevalence, clinical characteristics and prognosis of young HCC patients. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed for HCC patients in our center using Korean cancer registry data. Among 4234 patients enrolled, there were 38 patients younger than 30 years of age (0.9%). We
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Surgical resection (SR) and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) have been commonly applied for patients with huge hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, optimal treatment has not been established. METHODS: Between 2000 and 2009, 267 patients with huge HCC (≥ 10 cm) underwent TACE and 84 underwent SR as the first treatment. Propensity score matching generated a matched cohort composed of 152 patients. We investigated overall survival and possible prognostic factors. RESU
This prospective study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of sonography in terms of the intensity of Clonorchis sinensis infection. Total 1,384 residents were subjected to this study at an endemic area in China, in which a clonorchiasis control program had been performed. History taking, fecal examination, and sonography were performed, and 87.8% of the subjects were found to be egg positive. Sonography showed intrahepatic bile duct dilatation (IHDD) in 68.4% of the subjects, in
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of death in many countries, including South Korea. To provide useful and sensible advice for clinical management of patients with HCC, the Korean Liver Cancer Association and National Cancer Center Korea Practice Guideline Revision Committee have recently revised the practice guidelines for HCC management. However, there are some differences between practice guidelines and real-life clinical practice. In this review, we describe some key recommenda
Enlarged perihepatic lymph nodes in chronic hepatitis B can be a good indicator for histologic and biochemical inflammatory activity of the liver, but not for viremia.
Our results suggested that the radiologic response criteria based on serial CT images might be useful for predicting total necrosis of TACE-pretreated HCC in LT.
It is hard to determine anti-HCV positivity based on the S/CO ratio alone. However, this study elucidated the role of the S/CO ratio by using the NAAT and RIBA.
Improvement in surgical performance of SPR assisted rectal cancer operation was achieved after 21 cases. The three phases identified in the cumulative sum analysis showed a significant decrease in operative time after the middle stage of the learning curve without an increase in the complication rate.
