A new homogeneity index based on statistical analysis of the dose–volume histogram

SJR Q1Journal of Applied Clinical Medical PhysicsOA

The goal of the present study was to develop a new dose-volume histogram (DVH)- based homogeneity index for effectively evaluating the dose homogeneity of intensity-modulated radiotherapy plans. The new index, called the sigma-index ("S-index") is defined as the standard deviation of the normalized differential DVH curve. In a study of 16 patients with brain tumors at our institution, the S-index was found to vary from 0.80 to 3.15. Our results showed that the S-index provides a more reliable an

Progress of topographic regulation of the visual projection in the halved optic tectum of adult goldfish.
Myonggeun Yoon
SJR Q1The Journal of PhysiologyOA

1. The patterns of re-established visual projections on to the rostral half-tectum are studied following excision of the caudal tectum at various intervals after section of either the contralateral optic nerve or the ipsilateral optic tract in adult goldfish. 2. The pattern of a newly restored retinotectal projection depends on the duration of the post-operative period given to the halved tectum before it is re-innervated by regenrating optic fibres from the retina. 3. When the duration is such

Glioblastoma, the most common primary brain tumor in adults, is an incurable malignancy with poor short-term survival and is typically treated with radiotherapy along with temozolomide. While the development of tumor-treating fields (TTFields), electric fields with alternating low and intermediate intensity has facilitated glioblastoma treatment, clinical outcomes of TTFields are reportedly inconsistent. However, combinatorial administration of chemotherapy with TTFields has proven effective for

Retention of the original topographic polarity by the 180° rotated tectal reimplant in young adult goldfish
Myonggeun Yoon
SJR Q1The Journal of PhysiologyOA

1. The pattern of visual projection from the retina on to the optic tectum was studied with neurophysiological mapping methods following reimplantation of the optic tectum in young adult goldfish.2. When a rectangular piece of the tectum was dissected out and then reimplanted to the same tectum in situ, the restored visual projection showed a normal retinotopic order over the area of the tectal reimplant.3. If the tectal tissue was reimplanted after rotation by 180 degrees , the visual projectio

Monte Carlo Simulation Study on Dose Enhancement by Gold Nanoparticles in Brachytherapy
Myonggeun Yoon, Sungkoo Cho, Jong Hwi Jeong, Chan Hyeong Kim
SJR Q3Journal of the Korean Physical Society

Radiation dose enhancement by injection of a high atomic number (Z) material into tumor volumes has been studied for various radiation sources and different concentrations of gold nanoparticles. Brachytherapy employs low energy photons of less than similar to 0.5 MeV, which indeed is the optimal energy range for radiation dose enhancement by introduction of high-Z material. The present study uses the MCNPX (TM) code to estimate the dose enhancement by gold nanoparticles for the four common brach

Self-assembled nanodot arrays onSi(111)−(7×7)surfaces
Myonggeun Yoon, Xiaoqing Lin, Ilya Chizhov, H. Mai, R. F. Willis
Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We report on the self-assembly of a superlattice of nanodots of different elements (Sn,In) on a $\mathrm{Si}(111)\ensuremath{-}(7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}7)$ template surface, observed with a scanning tunneling microscope. The formation of nanodots is a feature of the $\mathrm{Si}(111)\ensuremath{-}(7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}7)$ surface, and a characteristic of adsorbates of different valency. In this paper, we examine the evolution of these nanodots with increasing coverage to

Reciprocal transplantations between the optic tectum and the cerebellum in adult goldfish.
Myonggeun Yoon
SJR Q1The Journal of PhysiologyOA

1. The topographic pattern of re-established visual projections after a reciprocal transplantation between tectal and cerebellar tissues was studied in adult goldfish. 2. A rectangular tissue was dissected from the left tectum, and a similar piece from the cerebellum in the same fish. The cerebellar piece was rotated by either 180 or 0 degrees around the dorsoventral axis, and transplanted into the tectum in place of the tectal piece. This tectal tissue was likewise grafted into the cerebellum a

Readjustment of retinotectal projection following reimplantation of a rotated or inverted tectal tissue in adult goldfish.

SJR Q1The Journal of PhysiologyOA

1. The pattern of visual projection from the retina on to the optic tectum following reimplantation of a piece of the tectal tissue was studied with neurophysiological mapping methods in adult goldfish. 2. When a rectangular piece of the tectum was dissected, lifted free, and then reimplanted to the same tectum after rotation by 180 degrees around the dorsoventral axis, the re-established visual projection later showed a complete reversal of retinotopic order within the reimplanted area with ref

This study examined the dose response of an optically stimulated luminescence dosemeter (OSLD) to megavoltage photon and electron beams. A nanoDot™ dosemeter was used to measure the dose response of the OSLD. Photons of 6-15 MV and electrons of 9-20 MeV were delivered by a Varian 21iX machine (Varian Medical System, Inc. Milpitas, CA, USA). The energy dependency was <1 %. For the 6-MV photons, the dose was linear until 200 cGy. The superficial dose measurements revealed photon irradiation to hav

Tumor treating fields (TTFs) are a newly developed cancer therapy technology using an alternating electric field that may be a possible candidate for overcoming the limitations of conventional treatment methods currently used in cancer treatment. Although clinical results using TTFs appear promising, concerns regarding side effects must be clarified to demonstrate the effectiveness of this treatment method. To investigate the side effects of TTF treatment, the damage to normal cell lines and nor
