12BACKGROUND: The changes in hypnotic indicators in remimazolam sedation remain unclear. We investigated the correlation of the electroencephalogram (EEG) parameters with the effect-site remimazolam concentration and the depth of sedation in patients receiving a target-controlled infusion of remimazolam. METHODS: This prospective observational study enrolled 35 patients (32 analyzed) who underwent lower extremity varicose vein surgery or lower extremity orthopedic surgery under spinal anesthesia.

Preoperative serum albumin levels were an independent predictor of 1-year mortality after the graft replacement of ascending aorta and aortic arch. These findings underscore that the optimization of patients' nutritional status before surgery may be warranted and should be further explored in this high-risk population.
In OPCAB patients, preoperative NLR and delta-NLR were significantly associated with DAOH 90, and delta-NLR was an independent risk factor for long-term mortality, indicating their role in risk assessment, which is essential for perioperative management.
Background: Myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery (MINS) has been known to be associated with mortality in various surgical patients; however, its prognostic role in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) open repair remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate the role of MINS as a predictor of mortality in patients who underwent AAA open repair. Methods: This retrospective study investigated 352 patients who underwent open repair for non-ruptured AAA. The predictors of 30-day and 1-ye
The Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is a novel nutritional index that integrates the serum albumin level, peripheral blood lymphocyte count, and total cholesterol level. This retrospective study explores its prognostic significance in patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC). We included 436 patients who underwent CRS-HIPEC, categorized into low (0–3) and high (4–12) CONUT score groups, and performed logistic regre
Background The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) has been widely used as a nutritional metric in patients undergoing cardiac surgery because of its ability to incorporate both nutritional and inflammatory statuses. However, while preoperative PNI is well-known for its predictability of outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), the prognostic value of postoperative PNI has rarely been evaluated. This study investigated the changes in postoperative PNI values following off-pump coron
The occurrence of significant pain and paresthesia after robot-assisted transaxillary thyroidectomy has been reported, and some patients experience chronic symptoms even three months after surgery. This study scrutinized the effects of deep neuromuscular block during robot-assisted transaxillary thyroidectomy on postoperative pain and sensory changes. In this single-blinded, prospective, randomized, controlled trial, 88 patients who underwent robot-assisted transaxillary thyroidectomy were enrol
BACKGROUND: During pediatric epilepsy surgery, due to low circulating blood volume, intraoperative bleeding can result in significant hemodynamic instability, thereby requiring meticulous hemodynamic and transfusion strategies. Knowing the source of bleeding during the procedure would allow medical staff to better prepare the perioperative protocols for these patients. We compared intraoperative bleeding between the first (involving skin to meninges) and second (involving brain parenchyma) stage
BACKGROUND: Bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA)-measured body composition and nutritional status have been used as prognostic indicators in various cancer cohorts. This study investigated whether BIA could provide information on prognosis in peritoneal carcinomatosis patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 99 patients with preoperative BIA data among those who underwent CRS and HIPEC.
A 34-year-old man who previously underwent a craniotomy due to oligodendroglioma was admitted with a diagnosis of recurrent brain tumor. An awake craniotomy was planned. Approximately 15 minutes after completing the scalp nerve block, his upper torso suddenly moved and trembled for 10 seconds, suggesting a generalized clonic seizure. He recovered gradually and fully in 55 minutes without any neurological sequelae. The emergency computed tomography scan revealed a localized fluid collection and s
