Comparison of surgical outcomes and learning curve for robotic versus laparoscopic living donor hepatectomy: A retrospective cohort study

SJR Q1International Journal of SurgeryOA

RLDRH resulted in less intraoperative bleeding and comparable postoperative outcomes than LLDRH. Moreover, since 2019, RLDRH has been employed more frequently for donors with hilar structure anatomic variations. Based on our single-center experience, we propose that standardized procedures for RLDRH might help set up pure minimally invasive procedures for donor hepatectomy and facilitate safe implementation of laparoscopic approaches.

Preoperative Prediction of Microvascular Invasion with Gadoxetic Acid-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients with Single Hepatocellular Carcinoma: The Implication of Surgical Decision on the Extent of Liver Resection

SJR Q1Liver CancerOA

Introduction: Microvascular invasion (MVI) is one of the most important prognostic factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence, but its application in preoperative clinical decisions is limited. This study aimed to identify preoperative predictive factors for MVI in HCC and further evaluate oncologic outcomes of different types and extents of hepatectomy according to stratified risk of MVI. Methods: Patients wi

Propensity Score–matched Donor and Recipient Outcomes: Robotic Versus Laparoscopic Donor Right Hepatectomy

SJR Q1Transplantation

BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined the long-term outcomes of recipients in minimally invasive donor hepatectomies, particularly comparing robotic and laparoscopic donor procedures. Understanding these outcomes is crucial for optimizing surgical approaches and improving the overall success of living donor liver transplantation. This study aimed to compare the feasibility and safety of robotic donor right hepatectomy (RDRH) and laparoscopic donor right hepatectomy (LDRH) by evaluating total fol

Prognostic impact of R1 resection margin in synchronous and simultaneous colorectal liver metastasis resection: a retrospective cohort study
Na Reum Kim, Essam Dhafer Alhothaifi, Dai Hoon Han, Jin Sub Choi, Gi Hong Choi
SJR Q1World Journal of Surgical OncologyOA

BACKGROUND: A margin ≥ 1 mm is considered a standard resection margin for colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). However, microscopic incomplete resection (R1) is not rare since aggressive surgical resection has been attempted in multiple and bilobar CRLM. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of resection margins and perioperative chemotherapy in patients with CRLM. METHODS: A total of 368 of 371 patients who underwent simultaneous colorectal and liver resection for synchronous CRL

SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

Purpose: Advanced techniques and multidisciplinary approaches have improved hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surgical outcomes. This study updates the long-term survival after liver resection (LR) for HCC based on over 20 years of experience.Materials and Methods: Between 1996 and 2017, 1963 patients with HCC underwent LR.After excluding 185 patients who received preoperative therapy, 1778 treatment-nave HCC patients were included.Clinicopathological characteristics and surgical outcomes were compa

Robotic single-port plus one-port splenic vessel-conserving spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy: a case report
Sung Hyun Kim, Na Reum Kim, Chang Moo Kang
Daehan nae'si'gyeong bog'gang'gyeong oe'gwa haghoeji/Journal of minimally invasive surgeryOA

Minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy is a safe and effective surgical approach for the treatment of distal pancreatic tumors. Recently, the da Vinci single-port (SP) system (Intuitive Surgical, Inc.) was introduced to overcome the previously known limitations of this approach. Here, we report our experience with robotic SP plus one-port splenic vessel-conserving spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy (RSP + 1 SVc-SpDP). A 38-year-old male patient was incidentally found to have a pancreatic

Age-related impact on liver regeneration in older donors after living-donor right hepatectomy: a propensity score-matched cohort study
Na Reum Kim, Gi Hong Choi, Jin Sub Choi, Dai Hoon Han
SJR Q2Annals of Surgical Treatment and ResearchOA

Purpose: Given the widening of the donor pool to include patients with steatosis, small-for-size grafts, and older patients, this study examined the effect of age on liver volumetric regeneration after a donor right hepatectomy. Methods: We enrolled 33 older (≥55 years) and 277 younger (<30 years) donors who underwent donor right hepatectomy between March 2012 and December 2022. After propensity score-matched analysis, the perioperative surgical outcomes and growth rates of the remnant liver in

Additional nodules detected using EOB-MRI in patients with resectable single hepatocellular carcinoma: an implication for active treatment strategy

SJR Q1Journal of Liver CancerOA

BACKGROUND/AIM: Gadolinium-ethoxybenzyl-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (EOBMRI) further enhances the identification of additional hepatic nodules compared with computed tomography (CT) alone; however, the optimal treatment for such additional nodules remains unclear. We investigated the long-term oncological effect of aggressive treatment strategies for additional lesions identified using EOB-MRI in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: D

Anatomical study of the paracaval branch of the caudate lobe: implications of paracaval portion-preserving right hepatectomy for donors with marginal remnant liver volume
Na Reum Kim, Dai Hoon Han, Jin Sub Choi, Gi Hong Choi
HepatoBiliary Surgery and NutritionOA

Background: In living donor liver transplantation, the remnant liver volume (RLV) is important when selecting a donor, and it should usually exceed 35%. However, there have been no studies on the preservation of the caudate lobe in donors with marginal RLV. This study aimed to analyze and preserve the paracaval branch by using donor right hepatectomy (DRH). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from liver donors who underwent DRH between August 2022 and July 2023. The paracaval branch was cl

Compared with other treatments, surgical resection is an effective treatment method with the lowest local recurrence rate and the highest survival rate for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To achieve excellent results after surgical treatment, it is essential to carefully select patients who are suitable for hepatic resection and minimize postoperative complications and liver function decline through standardized surgical methods and pre- and postoperative management. However, domestic and intern
