15PURPOSE: To determine whether magnetic resonance (MR) enterography performed with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) without intravenous contrast material is noninferior to contrast material-enhanced (CE) MR enterography for the evaluation of small-bowel inflammation in Crohn disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Institutional review board approval and informed consent were obtained for this prospective noninferiority study. Fifty consecutive adults suspected of having Crohn disease underwent clinical a
Comprehensive and updated knowledge of ICC is necessary for accurate diagnosis and could facilitate prediction of clinical outcomes for patients with ICC.
OBJECTIVE: To validate the 2012 guidelines for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas and to compare diagnostic performances of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for differentiating malignant from benign IPMN. BACKGROUND: As IPMN has variable risks of malignancy and management of this entity is closely related to its malignant potential, it is important to predict risks of IPMN malignancy. METHODS: This retrospective study included 158 patients
Baseline magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the primary staging modality for surgical plans and stratification of patient populations for more efficient neoadjuvant treatment. Patients who exhibit a complete response to chemoradiotherapy (CRT) may achieve excellent local tumor control and better quality of life with organ-preserving treatments such as local excision or even watch-and-wait management. Therefore, the evaluation of tumor response is a key factor for determining the appropr
Sclerosing cholangitis is a spectrum of chronic progressive cholestatic liver disease characterized by inflammation, fibrosis, and stricture of the bile ducts, which can be classified as primary and secondary sclerosing cholangitis. Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a chronic progressive liver disease of unknown cause. On the other hand, secondary sclerosing cholangitis has identifiable causes that include immunoglobulin G4-related sclerosing disease, recurrent pyogenic cholangitis, ischemic cho
PURPOSE: To assess the feasibility of 3D navigator-triggered magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) with combined parallel imaging (PI) and compressed sensing (CS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: With Institutional Review Board approval, 30 consecutive patients who underwent MRCP for suspected pancreaticobiliary disease were prospectively recruited. All patients underwent 3D navigator-triggered MRCP with conventional PI alone, and with combined PI and CS using a 3T machine. The acquisition t
Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related kidney disease (IgG4-KD) has recently been demonstrated to be an important part of IgG4-related sclerosing disease (IgG4-SD). However, since IgG4-KD is still relatively unfamiliar to radiologists and physicians as compared to IgG4-SD involving other organs, it could, therefore, be easily missed. In this article, we present a comprehensive pictorial review of IgG4-KD with regards to the imaging spectrum, mimickers, and clinicopathologic characteristics, based on o
BACKGROUND: Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is one of the new techniques being developed to overcome the inherent limitations of mammography caused by superimposed structures in a 2D projection. PURPOSE: To compare the diagnostic performances of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and full-field digital mammography (FFDM) for lesion characterization and size measurement using breast specimens. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Out of 156 women scheduled for surgery, we included in our study 114 women, eac
OBJECTIVE: Upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is a serious complication that sometimes occurs after percutaneous radiologic gastrostomy (PRG). We evaluated the incidence of bleeding complications after a PRG and its management including transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 574 patients who underwent PRG in our institution between 2000 and 2010. Eight patients (1.4%) had symptoms or signs of upper GI bleeding after PRG. RESULTS: The initi
