Outcome of nephrectomy and kidney-preserving procedures for the treatment of emphysematous pyelonephritis

Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology

Immediate nephrectomy with glycemic control measures and antibiotic administration is crucial for the successful treatment of EPN. However, in inoperable cases, percutaneous drainage can be an effective treatment option.

Foxp3 -Treg Cells Enhanced by Repeated Low-Dose Gamma-Irradiation Attenuate Ovalbumin-Induced Allergic Asthma in Mice
Bum Soo Park, Gwan Ui Hong, Jai Youl Ro
SJR Q2Radiation Research

Gamma radiation is used for several therapeutic indications such as cancers and autoimmune diseases. Low-dose whole-body γ irradiation has been shown to activate immune responses in several ways, however, the effect and mechanism of irradiation on allergic asthma remains poorly understood. This study investigated whether or not irradiation exacerbates allergic asthma responses and its potential mechanism. C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA) to induce asthma. The mice

Pyrosequencing reveals specific associations of bacterial clades Roseobacter and Flavobacterium with the harmful dinoflagellate Cochlodinium polykrikoides growing in culture

SJR Q2Marine Ecology

Abstract Harmful algal blooms of the dinoflagellate Cochlodinium polykrikoides are of worldwide environmental concern. Previous field studies have demonstrated the association of such algal blooms with free‐living bacteria ( FLB ) and particle‐associated bacteria ( PAB ). In the present study, we report evidence for bacterial association with C. polykrikoides in laboratory culture. Sampling was performed at different growth stages (lag, exponential and stationary) and pyrosequencing was used to

Response of the bacterioplankton composition to inorganic nutrient loading and phytoplankton in southern Korean coastal waters: A mesocosm study
Bum Soo Park, Minji Lee, Kyoungsoon Shin, Seung Ho Baek
SJR Q2Marine Ecology

Abstract In Korean coastal waters (KCW), nutrient loading from the four major rivers usually peaks in summer, probably due to the large amount of water discharge in rainy seasons, but little is known about the responses of the bacterial community composition to inorganic nutrient loading. To gain deeper understanding of variations in marine microbial biodiversity and function with inorganic nutrient loading, a large‐scale mesocosm (1,000 L) experiment was conducted in southern KCW for 10 days in

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Different clades belonging to the cosmopolitan marine diatom Pseudo-nitzschia pungens appear to be present in different oceanic environments, however, a 'hybrid zone', where populations of different clades interbreed, has also been reported. Many studies have investigated the sexual reproduction of P. pungens, focused on morphology and life cycle, rather than the role of sexual reproduction in mixing the genomes of their parents. We carried out crossing experiments to determine the sexual compat

Importance of free-living and particle-associated bacteria for the growth of the harmful dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum: evidence in culture stages
Bum Soo Park, Ruoyu Guo, Weol‐Ae Lim, Jang‐Seu Ki
SJR Q2Marine and Freshwater Research

The marine dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum is the cause of harmful algal blooms and may grow in association with co-occurring bacteria as ectosymbiotic, endosymbiotic and free-living forms. In the present study we investigated the bacterial community composition of both free-living bacteria (FLB) and particle-associated bacteria (PAB) in the lag, exponential and stationary growth stages of P. minimum using pyrosequencing. Metagenomics, hierarchical cluster and non-metric multidimensional sca
