15BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Previous studies have assessed the relationship between cerebral vessel tortuosity and intracranial aneurysm (IA) based on two-dimensional brain image analysis. We evaluated the relationship between cerebral vessel tortuosity and IA according to the hemodynamic location using three-dimensional (3D) analysis and studied the effect of tortuosity on the recurrence of treated IA. METHODS: We collected clinical and imaging data from patients with IA and disease-free controls.
Objective: We aimed to evaluate the results of endovascular coil embolization for very small aneurysms (≤ 3 mm). Materials and Methods: Between March 2005 and December 2008, a total of 31 very small aneurysms in 30 patients were treated by coil embolization. Of the 31 aneurysms, five (16%) were ruptured, as opposed to 26 (84%) that were not. We assessed the procedural complications, immediate angiographic outcome after coiling, clinical outcome, and follow-up MR angiography (MRA). Results: Two t
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of incidentally found unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) on the brain MR angiography (MRA) from a community-based general hospital. Materials and Methods: This was a prospectively collected retrospective study, carried out from January 2004 to December 2004. The subjects included 3049 persons from a community-based hospital in whom MRA was performed according to a standardized protocol in an outpatient setting. Age- and sex-specific prevalence of UIAs
Objective: Rapid and effective hemostasis at femoral puncture sites minimizes both the hospital stay and patient discomfort. Therefore, a variety of arterial closure devices have been developed to facilitate the closure of femoral arteriotomy. The objective of this prospective study was to compare the efficacy of two different closure devices; a collagen plug device (Angio-Seal) and a suture-mediated closure device (the Closer S). Materials and Methods: From March 28, 2003 to August 31, 2004, we
Objective: We wanted to evaluate the safety and feasibility of ethanol sclerotherapy for treating craniofacial venous malformations (CVMs). Materials and Methods: From May 1998 to April 2007, 87 patients (40 men and 47 women; age range, 2-68 years) with CVMs underwent staged ethanol sclerotherapy (range, 1-21 sessions; median number of sessions, 2) by the direct puncture technique. Clinical follow up (range, 0-120 months; mean follow up, 35 months; median follow up, 28 months) was performed for
Purpose: Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is associated with poor outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention. However, CI-AKI has rarely been evaluated within the neurovascular field. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidenceand clinical implication of CI-AKI after coil embolization in patients with an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Materials and Methods: Between January 2005 and March 2016, 192 patients who underwent coil embolization were enrolled i
BACKGROUND/AIMS: To enable the diagnosis of moyamoya disease (MMD), detection of distal internal carotid artery stenosis and hazy network of basal collaterals (BCs) are required. This study aimed at evaluating the factors that could determine the degree of BCs in patients with angiographically confirmed MMD. METHODS: We analyzed 146 consecutive patients with MMD (age 26.2 ± 19.6, range 1-75). The degree of BCs (%) was measured based on conventional angiography. Factors associated with the degree
Objective: The purpose of this research was to investigate the anti-angiogenic inhibitory effect of KR-31831, a newly developed anti-angiogenic agent, on an in vivo human ovarian carcinoma model using dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI. Materials and Methods: Xenografted ovarian tumors were established by subcutaneous injection of SKOV3 cells into mice. The mice were treated daily with KR-31831 at 50 mg/kg for 21 days. Tumor tissues were excised corresponding to the DCE-MRI sections for evaluat
Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the early (<30 days) results and to analyze risk factors for the development of stroke and new brain infarction (NBI) after carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Methods: From September 2003 to August 2008, 233 CEAs were performed on 222 patients with critical internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis in a single center. Patient characteristics, history of neurological symptoms, procedural details, and postoperative complications were examined based on the medical records. The
Extracranial carotid stenosis is a well-established, modifiable risk factor for stroke. Asymptomatic extracranial carotid stenosis is increasingly being detected due to the introduction of less-invasive and more-sensitive advanced diagnostic technologies. For severe asymptomatic stenosis, earlier pivotal clinical trials demonstrated the benefit of carotid endarterectomy over the best medical therapy. Since then, great advances have been made in interventional and medical therapies as well as sur
A 37-year-old woman who had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery for left main and right coronary ostial lesions 2 years prior presented with angina and transient visual dimness. Computed tomography angiography showed a patent left internal mammary artery (LIMA) bypass graft and concentric narrowing with perivascular thickening around the arch vessels. The patient was diagnosed with Takayasu arteritis with coronary subclavian steal syndrome (CSSS). Thoracic angiography reveal
