15Gastrointestinal (GI) fistulas are frequently very serious complications that are associated with high morbidity and mortality. GI fistulas can cause a wide array of pathophysiological effects by allowing abnormal diversion of the GI contents, including digestive fluid, water, electrolytes, and nutrients, from either one intestine to another or from the intestine to the skin. As an alternative to surgery, recent technical advances in interventional radiology and percutaneous techniques have been
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter during aspiration thrombectomy for acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower extremity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From July 2004 to December 2013, a retrospective analysis of 106 patients with acute DVT was performed. All patients received an IVC filter and were treated initially with aspiration thrombectomy. Among the 106 patients, DVT extension into the IVC was noted in 27 but was not evident in 79. We evaluated the presenc
Polysplenia syndrome is a rare condition (about 2.5:100,000 live births) wherein a person has two or more spleens with accompanying various thoracic and abdominal organ abnormalities. Polysplenia is usually associated with situs ambiguous, while polysplenia with situs inversus is very rare. Herein, we report a rare case of incidentally found polysplenia syndrome combined with situs inversus in a 59-year-old female who also had an interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) with azygos continuation, pat
Most abdominal aortic aneurysms are asymptomatic, but 1% to 4% of cases present with a life-threatening complication. A spontaneous right common iliac artery-inferior vena cava fistula, a rare condition caused by infrarenal aortoiliac aneurysm, is reported. In this case, the condition was successfully managed with primary endovascular stent-graft treatment.
A 60-year-old woman was referred for 64-slice multidetector computed tomography because of the incidental findings of abnormality on a chest radiograph. Her computed tomography showed an absent right lung and a rudimentary main bronchus ending in a blind pouch; this established the diagnosis of pulmonary aplasia. We report here on a rare case of incidentally found right pulmonary aplasia, and we include a brief review of the relevant literature.
