15The role of ligand-based electronic effects was investigated in the Ni-catalyzed polymerization of 4-bromo-2,5-bis(hexyloxy)phenylmagnesium chloride. The catalyst with the most electron-donating ligand outperformed the other catalysts by providing polymers with narrower molecular weight distributions. This result is attributed to both a suppression of competing reaction pathways (e.g., chain transfer and termination) as well as a relative acceleration of precatalyst initiation compared to propag
Nickel(II) complexes with varying reactive ligands, which were designed to selectively accelerate the initiation rate without influencing the propagation rate in the chain-growth polymerization of π-conjugated monomers, were investigated. Precatalysts with electronically varied reacting groups led to faster initiation rates and narrower molecular weight distributions. Computational studies revealed that the reductive elimination rates are largely modulated by the ability of the two reacting aren
A refractory and resistant disease to conventional induction chemotherapy and relapsed disease are considered as the most important adverse prognostic factors for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Sixty-one patients (median age, 33.6 yr) with relapsed or refractory AML were treated with the FLAG regimen that consisted of fludarabine (30 mg/m(2), days 1-5), cytarabine (2.0 g/m(2), days 1-5) and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor. Of the treated patients 29 patients (47.5%) achieved complete remiss
BACKGROUND: Nucleophosmin (NPM1) gene and fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 gene-internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) mutations are the most frequent mutations in patients with cytogenetically normal (CN)-AML. We analyzed the prognostic impact of these mutations and their interactions in adults with CN-AML. METHODS: NPM1 mutation (NPM1mut) and FLT3-ITD mutation (FLT3-ITD+) were analyzed by GeneScan and PCR assays of bone marrow samples obtained from 121 adult patients with CN-AML (age≤60 years at dia
BACKGROUND: All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA)/anthracycline chemotherapy is beneficial in newly diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL); however, it is important to identify patients with high-risk disease to increase the cure rate. We investigated the outcome of ATRA/anthracycline chemotherapy and clinicobiological correlations of FLT3/ITD and NPM1 mutations in APL patients. METHODS: Induction therapy included oral ATRA (45 mg/m(2)/day) and idarubicin (12 mg/m(2)/day, intravenous, on days 2,
BACKGROUND: High-dose melphalan (200 mg/m(2)) with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is the standard treatment for young patients with multiple myeloma (MM). However, the response rates after ASCT are often unsatisfactory. We performed a pilot study by using bortezomib-melphalan as conditioning regimen for ASCT in Korean patients with MM. METHODS: The conditioning regimen consisted of administration of intravenous infusion of bortezomib 1.0 mg/m(2) on days -4 and -1 and melphalan 50 mg
Abstract Introduction Ruxolitinib is a selective JAK 1/2 inhibitor, which shows an excellent treatment outcome in myelofibrosis (MF) patients. Main side effect of JAK 1/2 inhibitors is an increased risk of infection. JAK1/2 inhibition may interfere with the differentiation of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) producing Th1 cells and IFN-γ is a key cytokine involved in protective immunity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis(TB). During COMPORT-II trial, a case of disseminated TB with ruxolitinib was reported.
Abstract Purpose Based on CALGB trial in 1994, 3-4 cycles of high-dose cytarabine have been one of the standard consolidation therapies. Despite the confirmed efficacy of anthracyclines for remission induction, the role of anthracyclines for postremission consolidation is a subject still under debate. In this retrospective analysis, we compared the efficacy of high-dose cytarabine (>=1.5 g/m2) and intermediate-dose cytarabine (1 g/m2) combined with anthracyclines as postremission therapy. Met
The widespread adoption of the smartphone has led to both positive and negative consequences for adolescents' mental health. This study examines the interplay between smartphone dependence (SPD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and various mental health outcomes among Korean adolescents. Data from the 16th Adolescence Health Behavior Survey (2020), including 54,948 middle and high school students, were analyzed. Adolescents were categorized into three groups based on SPD severity. The GAD-7
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Bortezomib plus melphalan-prednisone (VMP) is a standard treatment for multiple myeloma, particularly for patients who are ineligible for high-dose therapy. However, early discontinuation or treatment modification is often needed owing to adverse events. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcomes of modifying the dose of melphalan-prednisone (MP) in patients receiving VMP. METHODS: We examined 67 patients who received a modified dose of MP, and 38 patients wh
Immune-mediated cytopenias are relatively well-recognized complications that occur after allogeneic stem cell transplant (allo-SCT). These can be associated with graft versus host disease (GVHD) an...
Abstract Abstract 5151 Background: Along with hydroxyurea, anagrelide has been widely used for the treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). In contrast to hydroxyurea, anagrelide selectively inhibits megakaryocyte colony development and its cytoreductive effect relatively limited to platelets, hence, it usually used as a first line therapy for the patients with essential thrombocytosis (ET). The frequently reported adverse events of anagrelide are palpitation, headache, edema, and vague
Esophageal involvement by extranodal natural killer (NK)/T cell lymphoma, nasal type, is rare. As a result, esophageal symptoms in these patients might at first be thought to originate from a benign condition, such as viral esophagitis. It is important to note, however, that benign conditions may mask esophageal involvement by lymphoma. Until now, there has been no report documenting esophageal involvement by lymphoma mimicking viral esophagitis in an extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma patient underg
Abstract Introduction Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is known as an acquired, immune-mediated disease characterized by isolated thrombocytopenia. Many studies have asserted that a diagnosis of ITP does not require a routine bone marrow examination. However, bone marrow examination is necessary in many cases because the diagnosis of ITP requires exclusion of other diseases including bone marrow disease. As both physicians and patients are reluctant to perform an invasive bone marrow examin
This paper explores the complex relations between the emergence of the middle class, commercial market and children’s literature as entertainment takes its place firmly alongside instruction. It is widely accepted that children’s literature as a separate genre of writing began in the eighteenth century as part of the modern idea of the child and childhood that emerged in the same period. John Newbury stands at the very beginning of this new development with the publication of his Little Pretty P
