BACKGROUND: The 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) classification introduced nodal lymphomas of T follicular helper (Tfh) cell origin, such as angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL), follicular peripheral T-cell lymphoma (F-PTCL), and nodal peripheral T-cell lymphoma with T follicular helper phenotype (nodal PTCL with TFH phenotype). However, the accurate incidence rate and clinical characteristics of F-PTCL and nodal PTCL with TFH are unstudied. METHODS: Between February 2012 to June 2020,
The gut microbiome influences cancer development and the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy but little is known about its effects on lymphoma. We obtained stool samples from treatment-naive, newly diagnosed patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (n = 189). We first performed 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing (n = 158) and then conducted whole-genome shotgun sequencing on additional samples (n = 106). We compared the microbiome data from these patients with data from healthy control
PURPOSE: Analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in blood could allow noninvasive genetic analysis of primary tumors. Although there have been unmet needs for noninvasive methods in patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), it is still not determined whether plasma ctDNA analysis could be useful for patients with PCNSL. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Targeted deep sequencing of 54 genes was performed in cell-free DNA isolated from plasma samples collected pretreatment, during trea
Recently, the sidedness of the primary tumor (right versus left) has been investigated for its ability to prognosticate and predict outcomes. We evaluated the effect of regorafenib based on KRAS mutation status and the sidedness of the primary tumor in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). We analyzed 135 patients with refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) being treated with regorafenib at Samsung Medical Center, between January 2014 and January 2018. Primary tumors origina
The treatment outcome of patients with the Asian variant of IVLBCL is still not satisfactory. The prediction of CNS involvement based on the clinical features including CNS-IPI score might not serve to identify patients at high risk of CNS involvement, either. Thus, more effective strategies for diagnosis and treatment should be developed.
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) positivity in diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) provokes a critical oncogenic mechanism to activate intracellular signaling by LMP1. LMP1 specifically mimics the role of BTK-dependent B cell receptor. Therefore, a trial considering RCHOP therapy along with ibrutinib (I-RCHOP) in combination was conducted among patients with EBV-positive DLBCL. This study was an open-label, single-arm, prospective multicenter phase II clinical trial. Patients received 560 mg of ibruti
Background: Progression within 24 months after initiating treatment (POD24) is established as an unfavorable event predicting poor prognosis in patients with follicular lymphoma (FL). However, little is known about the impact of transformation on the outcome of FL patients with POD24 although transformation could be related to early progression and poor prognosis in FL patients. Methods: We investigated the occurrence of transformation and its association with POD24 in FL patients
Background: Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma (GEP-NEC) is a heterogeneous disease in terms of embryonic origin, aggressiveness, prognosis, and genomic profiling. Data regarding the efficacy of etoposide and cisplatin (EP) as a standard treatment of the primary tumor site in GEP-NEC are limited. Materials and Methods: We analyzed 64 patients with histopathologically confirmed metastatic GEP-NEC who received EP at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, between January 2
PURPOSE: The feasibility of sequencing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in plasma as a biomarker to predict early relapse or poor prognosis in patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) receiving systemic immunochemotherapy is not clear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We sequenced DNA from cell-free plasma that was serially obtained from newly diagnosed FL patients undergoing systemic immunochemotherapy. The mutation profiles of ctDNA at the time of diagnosis and at response evaluation and relapse and/or progr
Extranodal natural killer/T cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is an extraordinary subtype of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), mainly involves the nasal cavity and the upper airway, and is influenced by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Compared to other subtypes of T-cell lymphoma, ENKTL cannot be effectively treated with commonly used anthracycline-based systemic chemotherapy. Thus, the recent treatment of ENKTL has undergone significant changes based as informed by various clinical trials and prospective studies
Abstract Background: Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and overall, 60% of patients have achieved complete remission (CR) with standard chemotherapy with rituximab. However, we did not find the exact answers to which molecular mechanisms influence the DLBCL development and why over 40% of patients did not achieve a CR. Recently, it has been reported that the gut microbiome is deeply related to immune system modulation, as well as, these associat
