15In this paper, Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling methods are exploited to provide a unified, practical likelihood-based framework for the analysis of stochastic volatility models. A highly effective method is developed that samples all the unobserved volatilities at once using an approximating offset mixture model, followed by an importance reweighting procedure. This approach is compared with several alternative methods using real data. The paper also develops simulation-based methods for filte
Achieving an improved understanding of catalyst properties, with ability to predict new catalytic materials, is key to overcoming the inherent limitations of metal oxide based gas sensors associated with rather low sensitivity and selectivity, particularly under highly humid conditions. This study introduces newly designed bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) employing bimetallic Pt‐based NPs (PtM, where M = Pd, Rh, and Ni) via a protein encapsulating route supported on mesoporous WO 3 nanofibers. The
Abstract This study attempts to reconcile the two strands of research on the impacts of financial leverage on firm valuation. The prior literature has shown that financial leverage has a polysemous effect. In other words, it provides two opposing signals of firm performance (i.e., financial distress vs. a driver of positive change in a firm's prospects). Given that the effects of financial leverage are contradictory, we specify how these divergent signals appear and propose that there is a non‐m
Chemical sensors have been essential components in recent years due to the gathering attention in environmental monitoring and healthcare. In this review, the authors comprehensively highlight recent progresses on the 1D chemiresistive‐type sensors based on semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) and optical‐type sensors, which are prepared by electrospinning technique. In the part of chemiresistive‐type sensors, diverse synthesis techniques for 1D SMO nanofibrous structure are presented with controll
Abstract Research Summary Literature suggests that firms may approximate ambidexterity over time by alternating between periods of exploration and exploitation. We theorize and empirically test performance implications of two types of temporal transition between exploration and exploitation and their boundary conditions. We find that a discontinuous jump has a negative effect on firm performance while an incremental transition has a positive effect. We also find that the role of firm resources a
Nanofibrous semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) functionalized by Pt-based bimetallic catalysts are synthesized by bioinspired protein templates by Il-Doo Kim and co-workers in article number 1700737. Pt-based bimetallic catalysts such as PtPd, PtRh, and PtNi are uniformly functionalized on the surface of the SMO nanofibers. As a result, exceptionally high sensing performance is achieved by selective detection of the biomarker species, such as acetone and hydrogen sulfide, in exhaled breath with p
This paper proposes and tests the impacts of firms’ innovation activities, such as patents, on their involvement in environmental sustainability, such as environmental performance. Combining resource allocation and eco-innovation perspectives assuming constant levels of trade-off costs, this study proposes diminishing trade-off costs between corporate innovation and environmental sustainability. Specifically, this research hypothesizes a U-shaped relationship, suggesting that a firm will suffer
The wing imaginal disc of Drosophila consists of the primordia for the adult wing and the body wall. The zinc-finger transcription factor Teashirt (Tsh) is expressed in the region proximal to the wing primordium and regulates the formation of the wing-body wall boundary. Here, we report that Tollo/Toll-8, a member of Toll family transmembrane proteins, is also expressed proximal to the wing domain. Ectopic expression of Decapentaplegic (Dpp), a morphogen for wing development, represses tollo exp

The purpose of this study was to examine how family involvement affects the environmental innovation of firms. While prior studies have shown that family involvement can enhance environmental performance, these environmental performances have been portrayed as firm activities to prevent environmental issues, such as air pollution, CO2 emissions, etc. We maintain that environmental performance should be more proactive and enable firms to transform their activities more fundamentally towards envir
Abstract Globalisation has produced changes in economic and social characteristics with no area more affected than job competitiveness and security. A common response has been increased investment in education. Korea has experienced this job insecurity and the associated heightened emphasis on education but the “localisation of globalisation” in Korea has had distinctive impacts. Korea began absorbing these impacts with a pre-existing “organisation-specific” knowledge system. Perceived failures
