Mutation ofOryza sativa CORONATINE INSENSITIVE 1b(OsCOI1b) delays leaf senescence

Jasmonic acid (JA) functions in plant development, including senescence and immunity. Arabidopsis thaliana CORONATINE INSENSITIVE 1 encodes a JA receptor and functions in the JA-responsive signaling pathway. The Arabidopsis genome harbors a single COI gene, but the rice (Oryza sativa) genome harbors three COI homologs, OsCOI1a, OsCOI1b, and OsCOI2. Thus, it remains unclear whether each OsCOI has distinct, additive, synergistic, or redundant functions in development. Here, we use the oscoi1b-1 kn

Spatial regulation of thermomorphogenesis by HY5 and PIF4 in Arabidopsis
Sang‐Hwa Lee, Wenli Wang, Enamul Huq
SJR Q1Nature CommunicationsOA

Plants respond to high ambient temperature by implementing a suite of morphological changes collectively termed thermomorphogenesis. Here we show that the above and below ground tissue-response to high ambient temperature are mediated by distinct transcription factors. While the central hub transcription factor, PHYTOCHROME INTERCTING FACTOR 4 (PIF4) regulates the above ground tissue response, the below ground root elongation is primarily regulated by ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5 (HY5). Plants respond

Effects of light exposure and vine microclimate on C13-norisoprenoid concentration in Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and wines were investigated by measuring the amounts of β-damascenone (megastigma-3,5,8-trien-7-one), TDN (1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene), and vitispirane (6,9-epoxy-3,5(13)-megastigmadiene) using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. In grapes and wines, the most exposed treatment (all lateral and primary leaves removed) had the highest light intensity and temperat

Delayed degradation of chlorophylls and photosynthetic proteins in Arabidopsis autophagy mutants during stress-induced leaf yellowing

SJR Q1Journal of Experimental BotanyOA

Plant autophagy, one of the essential proteolysis systems, balances proteome and nutrient levels in cells of the whole plant. Autophagy has been studied by analysing Arabidopsis thaliana autophagy-defective atg mutants, but the relationship between autophagy and chlorophyll (Chl) breakdown during stress-induced leaf yellowing remains unclear. During natural senescence or under abiotic-stress conditions, extensive cell death and early yellowing occurs in the leaves of atg mutants. A new finding i

SPAs promote thermomorphogenesis via regulating the phyB-PIF4 module in Arabidopsis
Sang‐Hwa Lee, Inyup Paik, Enamul Huq
SJR Q1DevelopmentOA

High ambient temperature due to global warming has a profound influence on plant growth and development at all stages of life cycle. Plant response to high ambient temperature termed thermomorphogenesis is characterized by hypocotyl and petiole elongation, and hyponastic growth at seedling stage. However, the molecular mechanism of thermomorphogenesis is still rudimentary. Here, we show that a set of four SUPPRESSOR OF PHYA-105 (SPA) genes is required for thermomorphogenesis. Consistently, SPAs

An autoregulatory negative feedback loop controls thermomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis

SJR Q1PLoS GeneticsOA

Plant growth and development are acutely sensitive to high ambient temperature caused in part due to climate change. However, the mechanism of high ambient temperature signaling is not well defined. Here, we show that HECATEs (HEC1 and HEC2), two helix-loop-helix transcription factors, inhibit thermomorphogenesis. While the expression of HEC1 and HEC2 is increased and HEC2 protein is stabilized at high ambient temperature, hec1hec2 double mutant showed exaggerated thermomorphogenesis. Analyses o

Mitochondrial genomes advance phylogenetic hypotheses for Tylenchina (Nematoda: Chromadorea)

Within the nematode class C hromadorea, the suborder T ylenchina is an ecologically and morphologically diverse assemblage of nematodes that includes free‐living microbivores, fungivores and various types of plant parasites. A recent nematode classification system based largely on SSU r DNA phylogenetic trees classified suborder T ylenchina to include four infraorders: Panagrolaimomorpha, C ephalobomorpha, T ylenchomorpha and D rilonematomorpha, and phylogenetic relationships among species of th

Nutrient levels control root growth responses to high ambient temperature in plants

SJR Q1Nature CommunicationsOA

Global warming will lead to significantly increased temperatures on earth. Plants respond to high ambient temperature with altered developmental and growth programs, termed thermomorphogenesis. Here we show that thermomorphogenesis is conserved in Arabidopsis, soybean, and rice and that it is linked to a decrease in the levels of the two macronutrients nitrogen and phosphorus. We also find that low external levels of these nutrients abolish root growth responses to high ambient temperature. We s

The Federated States of Micronesia consists of four states of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae, which are located in the West Pacific Ocean. In order to investigate molluscan fauna of Kosrae Island, field survey was made twice from 21st to 30th of January, 2011 and from 6th to 17th of January, 2012 for four localities including 10 intertidal and 14 subtidal zones of Kosrae Island. The mollusk samples collected were identified based on their morphological characteristics, comprising a total of 120
